Yet another ? for the GA masses

Comparing OL friends with IRL friends - are there ppl OL you care as much about as ppl IRL? This assumes you've never met the OL ppl...

However, anytime you develop any type of "relationship" with anyone... be it RL or OL, you tend to have concerns about their being... that is if you really cared in the first place.

I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

Theres one person that I care about even though I've never met her in real life. Even though I have never met her through our conversations I can feel that she is a truly incredible person. We are just friends and just BS from time to time, but over the year she has shared with me some things that have caused me to have some feelings for her. Not in a sexual way of course, but in a way where you feel compassion for another human being who is going through the same struggles that you are.

Know what I mean? Kinda wierd...

Yeah...there are a couple people that I have met online that I really care about. I genuinely care about what happens to them, good or bad. I talk to them about lots of stuff and they talk to me about a lot of stuff. It think it's really cool!

Kinda a moot point for me too. No IRL friends.

Yep. Same situation. In all my years of being online though there's only that 1 person that I actual care for as a person. Usually, I don't know, I tend to think of people online as just onliners and nothing more.

i care about people online, but in a totally different way than i care about people IRL.

i guess with OL people, i feel badly if they're in trouble or something bad is happening to them, but i don't really have any OL people who i'm close enough to that their trouble would really start to effect me longer term (basically, when i shut off the computer, my feelings for OL people fade into the background as well).

on the other hand, when my friends IRL are in trouble, then i really am going to be more effected by it.

I'd hafta say in most cases, I don't care as much for OL people as I would for my IRL friends. But there are always exceptions. I've been traveling in the online world for almost 10 years now, and I've chatted with hundreds of strangers from around the globe. For some, I actually was able to communicate and share stuff that I'd only share with my closest friends, and vice versa. I'd say I care for some just as much as my IRL friends. You don't need peronsal face to face contact to care for someone.
