I got mine today and here's my impression:

It was marked in a brown "not for resale" box. Unit came with everything needed including a USB cable and one AA Energizer battery. Piecing it together was a snap although I had to look at the manual to see where the SmartMedia card went and which direction. The 32MB SM card already had a sample MP3 demo on it so if you are anxious to hear something right away that was a nice touch. Volume level only reaches 25 which didn't seem very loud, IMO. The backphones seem kinda weird at first but are nice if you don't want the hat head effect from wearing headphones for a prolonged period. I then tried the FM tuner and it is a pain in the ass to manually change the stations. Good thing the software takes care of that. I would've liked AM as I listen to that more often to sports programming throughout the weekday. Reception is very poor on this unit. I don't know if it's the design of the backphones that make it a bad FM antenna or just the design of the unit itself. Software was easy to use but could use some redesigning. One of the annoying things is when you download a song from your player (I personally think it should be uploading from the computer but that's how they have it done) you can't do anything like listen to another song from from the built in player. Transfers take 10-20 seconds depending on the size of the song based on using the Nomad Manager software. Forget about long filenames showing up on your display as it does it in an 8.3 format for now. At least they preserved the ID3 tag. Creative already has a firmware in the works that takes care of that but don't know when that's ready for public consumption. My player didn't come shipped with the latest release firmware either when I checked Nomadworld.com. The menus on the Nomad take a little getting used and could probably be done a little better. There are settings like sleep timer for FM radio, backlight display to turn off time, turn off unit if idle for x amount of minutes, etc... I haven't figured out how to use the microphone feature yet but I guess I should RTFM. There doesn't appear to be any kind of resume feature once you stop the MP3 file so that would be a bummer for those that want to use it for books. It also has a time and date display which is kind of a pain to get to. The remote is a nice little addition for those that workout. I'd definately would use it the next time I'm out in-line skating. The USB input has a soft plastic cover that looks like it'll rip over time. I was only able to squeeze 7 songs in the 32MB space so now I'm gonna eventually get a 64MB SmartMedia card. Hopefully, it'll only be a phase for me and I'll get bored of it before I find a good deal on the memory.
