Question Is this deal bogus? Let me know what you think.

I got an e-mail with this link in it:

    http://www.xidserv.com/xid/page?XID=171_1530_192

It is for a free trial that includes $100 in free gas.

Is this BS? Or is this for real, does anyone know?

    Thanks,
    g

don't do it, i did a similar thing a few years back...you'll get charged the monthly fee, it's hard to get out of...and to use the free gas, you have to be enrolled in the program, so if it takes 2-3 months to get your check, then that's 2-3 months of fees on your cc you'll need to fight to get off.

    i'd say avoid it.

weird timing on this post- I just signed up for this "free gas" a few days ago and plan on cancelling my membership right when I get the packet in the mail. I believe I should still be able to use the gas rebates. Will let you all know how it goes.

    Beware SPAM carrying free gifts.

Especially ones in which you have to give a credit card number or do something to avoid being billed. There is no way to determine how reputable a company is, especially when they market their product unreputably [unsolicited].

    Use AMEX

American Express has a feature on their website called "Private Payments". When I sign up for something shady like this, I use Private Payments. Get an AMEX Blue!

Basically, you are given another number to use which will expire this month. Therefore, when they try to charge you again, the number they have is no longer valid. (Even though they say they won't, they *will* charge you every month until you cancel your creditcard. That's their game.)

From the AMEX website: Now, rather than using your American Express® Card account number to shop online, you can use a secure, free Private Payments number instead. By using Private Payments, you will receive a unique number that is linked to your actual Card account each time you shop. Use Private Payments to protect your Card account information online.
