I would like to get a new scanner soon and spend around $100 and possibly use the $20 off coupon at buy.com. Anyone know of any deals?

I had a umax 610p which I liked but it was slow and I want a USB scanner. I have tried the HP4200CSE but didn't like it. Any suggestions?

I have used the 620U for about 3 months. The scans can be a little dark, but this can be adjusted in software. It doesn't take up much space because it is so small.

The 620U has 600 x 600 resolution, but the file sizes at 600 dpi are very large. I have never saved anything over 300 dpi.

I would recommend the new 630U. It has 600 x 1200 resolution and a $30 rebate good through 9-30-2000. I saw the coupon on the buy.com page for the 630U.
    Buy.com has it for $107.95
    Onvia.com has it for $109.99 w/free shipping
I thought all the buy.com coupons expired. I think there is a $25 off $100 at Onvia.com, but I can't find the number now.

Or if you want the 620U, Staples.com has it for $77.90 w/free shipping and you can use a $25 off $75 coupon to get it for $52.90

    Hope this helps,

    Onvia has a $20 off $100 and a $25 off $200. Check Leon's deals from last week.

Why didn't you like the HP4200? I have had the same model for a few months now and have nothing but nice things to say about it. I had to download a couple of patches to fix a few glitches however.

I should state that the HP4200 is not a bad scanner. I should also have not stated that I do not like it. It is certainly WAY faster than my old umax 610p, both on pre-scan and actually scanning something. Also, it also has the 3 nice buttons on the front (the 610p had just one).

But there were a few features on the 610p that I liked more. The 610p has an on/off button whereas the 4200 doesn't. As soon as I download the patch to correct the automatic turn off feature (now it stays on all the time) I will probably like it more.

The actual scanning software was easier and quicker to use. It allowed for scanning of different types of items, such as newspaper, magazines and regular pictures - I have yet to find that feature on the 4200s software - it might be there and I just haven't found it.

Also, on the 4200, it seems that I have to do a preview scan each time I startup the scanner software. On the 610p, the previous preview scan was always saved and immediately visible on the screen. It saves only a bit of time but is nice.

Again about the software, it made it easier to switch resolution, change image type, change %zoom, and dpi. Of course, all of these things are just minor things.

The one thing is at 600x1200 I expected a scanned image to be better than a 300x600 scan from my old 610p, but it seemed fuzzier and not clear. Of course, these are all my own opinions.

If you have any tips for me, please let me know. I just bought the scanner a few days ago and am trying to decide whether or not to return it. Thanks.
