like a crackhead shaking for a fix...

i haven't had a sobe in over two weeks... and i still want them so bad... last night at meijer, i started shaking as i passed the display! the headaches have stopped, and the inability to stay awake is slowly passing... i am coming up out of the fog... i replaced sobe with just enough coffee to not feel like i had just had bleach injected into a vein (not enough to actually feel good, *sigh*) and i'm down to about half a cup a day. soon i will be off caffeine completely.

    damn. addictions are so... addicting.

*sipping my coffee* Be strong Welfare! I don't think I'd have many friends if I gave up my caffeine.

not sure, but it's a lot. and there's other stuff in it too, all perfectly safe, but stuff that makes you feel good... wouldn't be addicting on its own, but probably enhances the caffeine addiciton...

does caffein addiction have bad effects?... like does it end up making you sleepy?

see, i've drunk enough Mt Dew over the last 2 or 3 years to become very tolerant to it.. in fact, i could drink 2 cans of it and then go to bed and sleep. I used to drink maybe 6 or so cans of it in a 7 or 8hr work day.

lately, i've tried to lay off, and drink some Citra soda drink, but i dont know if its less caffien or not.

caffeine is a nasty addiction, because after a few weeks, you need it to FEEL NORMAL, not to feel more awake or better than normal. without it, you get headaches and feel tired. it takes a month to go away fully.

    and citra has no caffeine.

and did your dentist ever tell you how bad your teeth are going to be with all that soda? even diet soda is bad, but sugared is THE WORST. to make cavities, bacteria in your mouth need the pH lowered. a bite of food lowers the pH of your mouth for about 45 minutes; hence, frequent snacking will cause you to ahve more cavities. a soda, even diet, has the PERFECT pH for bacterial growth, so if you're slurping one all day, and giving the bacteria sugar to use for energy too... *shudder*

STOP IT! YOU DON'T WANT DENTURES! even if you have always had perfect teeth, it can't last, period. by the time you're thirty... ewwwwwwww...

I gave up caffine for lent this year. So I guess its been 60 days or so. That's how I quit smoking three years ago and I haven't had a cig since. The thing is, I have some feelings about having given up caffine. Was definitely hooked to diet cokes, I mean I felt so much better after slamming a couple in the mid morning. It was a nice little rush. When I stopped, I felt like there was no zing in life. I quit smoking like I said three years ago, quit drinking and other stuff 5 years ago and now caffine? All I have left is sex and food!!! I have a feeling though that for me life was meant to be taken without filters. I mean I really miss being able to take a couple of drinks to take the edge off of meeting new people, or new situations, but I don't miss being so drunk that I would miss out on everything that happened at a party.

Now I do a lot in life, but damn, it can be overwhelming to meet life head on. Stuff can be really intense, but as bad at it is, its good as well because numbing the mind numbs everything for me.

Caffeine is a mild stimulant which is found in the leaves, fruits, and seeds of many plants. Tea leaves, coffee and cocoa beans, as well as kola nuts all contain caffeine. Many people tend to think of coffee, tea, and cola drinks as the main sources of caffeine, but, in fact, caffeine can also be found in chocolate, stimulants such as No- doz tablets, some pain relievers, diuretics, cold remedies, weight-control aids, and various prescription medications.

In 1987 the US Food and Drug Administration found no evidence that normal caffeine intake produced any increased risk to health. The American Medical Association came to a similar conclusion in relation to the health and safety of drinking coffee. Two studies in Norway and Hawaii found no relationship between coffee intake and cancer risk, confirming the stance of the American Cancer Society that there does not seem to be any relationship between caffeine and cancer.

However, different individuals react differently to caffeine. Caffeine can cause some individuals to have difficulty sleeping at night. It can also cause some people to have fitful sleep, mood changes, heartburn, stomach upsets, or headaches. People who have a high caffeine intake may experience headaches or withdrawl symptoms if they suddenly cease getting their normal amount of caffeine. Because it is a stimulant, caffeinated beverages are not recommended for replacing body fluids lost while sweating in hot weather or hot work environments.

Here is a list of popular beverages, foods, and medications with their caffeine content in mg*:

    Coffee(5 oz cup) mg
    drip method 110-150
    percolated 64-124
    instant 40-108

    Tea (5 oz cup) mg
    1 min. brew 9-33
    3 min. brew 20-46
    instant 12-28

    Chocolate mg
6 oz cup of hot cocoa 2-8
8 oz cup chocolate milk 2-7
    1 oz milk chocolate 1-15

    Soft Drinks(12 oz can) mg
    Mountain Dew 54.0
    Coca-Cola / Diet Coke 45.6
    Shasta Cola 44.4
    Dr. Pepper 39.6
    Pepsi Cola 38.4
    Diet Pepsi 36.0

    Stimulants mg
    No-doz tablets 100
    Vivarin 200

    Pain Relievers mg
    Anacin 32
    Excedrin 65
    Midol (for cramps) 32

    Weight-Control Aids mg
    Dexatrim 200
    Dietac 200

better... but still bad. water, or a non-carbonated, non-nutritive drink (i know, now i'm taking all the fun out of it, aren't i?) like crystal light or sugar free koolaid would be best... and cheaper!

Thanks for the dental hygiene lesson. I didn't know most of that. Damn grade school health class lets me down again.

Question I have for you is - what about chewing gum. I'm good on the snacks, don't drink soda just gallons of water. But I do chew a lot of gum.

Even if the gum is bad cavity-wise it is better than sitting there grinding my teeth all day. Damn stress case that I am.
