    http://www.freewwweb.com is pretty good.

I used them for a while before I got DSL hooked up. No ads, no BS... just good FREE internet access... (Plus as a subscriber, you get an oppportunity do get in on their IPO!)

    Cool

Freewwweb is good, but I don't suggest using them as a primary ISP unless you don't mind the hours per month limit, which is around 100-150 per email name, unless it's changed. Real good connections, email and newsgroups kinda suspicious

I use Freei (freeinternet.com). It's the one with the baby and Shaq commercials. They have a banner program to log you in, but you can extract your login/pass/number from the prog and dial in normally.

It's my primary ISP and works really well-faster V.90 connection than most local ISPs.

    Cool

BTW, http://www.freewwweb.com filed for Chapter 11 today... so if you use them, you better start looking for a new free ISP.

Pretty funny how they were hyping their IPO just a few months ago, and now they have no cash at all... This crazy stock market is weeding out the dot com dummies.

    Thumbs up

Try www.freeatlast if it is available in your area. I routine log-in at 48kps. No advertising. No source of income. Good while it lasts. I still keep my $10 a month ISP

WHAT? Freewwweb filed for chapter 11??? That sucks! I just switched to them in May, and although I've had a lot of mail problems I didnt want to have to switch again. Oh geez. Anyway, I just went and checked out freeatlast.com. The only drawback that I see is that I will not be able to get my mail from outlook, will have to log onto their webpage to check it... anyone know a way around this? Also, how do you disable the banners in other ISP's? Do they cut you off from their service if you do this?

    Thanks,

Just because they filed Chapter 11, doesn't REALLY mean they are going out of business... they just filed for debt protection (I.e. their creditors can't harrass them). It wouldn't hurt to have a backup plan though . If you are really happy with their service, you should email them and ask how this will affect it.

I used to use NetZero with a rather nifty banner-removal program. Then I think they found out because my roommate and I could not log on anymore. One of my roommates in the next room could so it wasn't a connection problem.

Recently signed on with them again and their Java (I think) dialer program is the worst ever. If I cancel it midway or someone is on the phone then the dialer just hangs and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del and end the task. After I do that the dialer doesn't work anymore. Oh yeah and frequent drop offs despite being powered by "Cisco systems"!

I'm currently using MyPoints free web access. If you're a MyPoints member, this is an easy way to earn 50 points a month on top of getting free access. Recently, though, they've started using those nagging dialog boxes that pop up every 30 minutes or so that says you need to click on their ad banner to keep your "health meter" from getting so low they disconnect you. Very lame. But by connection rates are high (48/49K) and the price is definitely right.

How exactly do you extract the info from worldspy? This sounds very interesting.

Sorry, but BlueLight (ie Yahoo) and FreeInet both suck and freeze your system up. Freewwweb is the way to go. That sucks about WorldSpy being taken over by Juno. Oh well. I still have PeoplePC for $9.95/mo which connects to UUNET POP's nationwide.

k28la: are you using Alladvantage? The only time I've had problems with Freei is when I used to run the alladvantage bar. Otehr than taht-no problems, even in net games.

1st, i wanna thank all of ya for ur replies~!
its really good to hear all the stuff u guys have....for being so nice to share ur knowledge

this is for those who dunno, (correct me if anythign i say is wrong, i;m not an expert) a lot of the ISPs work by using the Dial Up Network in your My Computer. so if u sign up for a free acct, u can get the username, password, and access number. u can then use that to just dialup w/o using their program.

    ie. Worldspy was
    login: [email protected]
    pass: yourpass
    dialnumber: the number u use

in response to how the ISP can find out (noowen's q) i think that when u login to the ISP's server, they sorta track what urls ur browser requests....so for those bannerless ones, they mite be able to kno if u actually visit their ad page or not...(got this idea from the dumb worldspy/juno page that pops up even tho u type in some other address and from the idea of proxies) progs like netzero prolly just have their banner thing send something back, i think? all this is just opinion based on observation....not on anything substantial
