periodic laptop crashes

I've got an Ashton Digital Passport 2000+ (www.ashtondigital.com)... at this point, I'd highly recommend to stay away from Ashton... their service reaks of BS.

So I've used ME/XP, and have been having the same troubles for a month or so. My laptop out of nowhere just crashes, get the blue screen. It does it whether it's cold or hot, I've tried reformatting HD, scandisking to remove bad sectors, borrowing friends laptop RAM, troubleshooted software, updated bios, and still does it. Ashton Digital Tech'ies says it may be file corruption from bad connection of HD to motherboard. But the ironic thing is, there are these stickers everywhere in laptop that say if I break them warranty is void. So I can't take it apart to troubleshoot. This is bogus!

Any other suggestions? Oh, and where can I make some noise about how this company's products and support sucks!

I had that problem with my HP computer when I was running WinMe. I did a complete format and put Win XP and now I have no problems what so ever. Could be a kernal error, least that what was my problem.

I'm not really familiar with kernal errors. Good to hear I'm not alone though.

Maybe I can ask this... how can I interpret typical blue screen errors?

best bet is to wait for a BIOS update.

or better yet if you still have XP on ur laptop, go check in Administrative Tools in Control Panel.
and check the events to see what is up.


but i bet the BIOS update will solve it though.

Thats another good option to go with if you arent up to doing a format.

have you tried to run a scandisk to make sure that there are no bad sectors on your hard drive? you could be copying files onto a bad sector, and then those become corrupted.

also, are you being sure to keep your heat vents on the laptop unobstructed my girlfriend always puts stuff in front of where the fan sucks in, and the laptop freezes soon after, and i'm guessing its because of heat.

The BIOS update didn't help, rats. Even so, this crashing problem happened before I updated to XP, so didn't think the BIOS update would've helped.

What should I look for in Administrative Tools? What types of events could I track? Thanks.
