The thrill of a simple practical joke....

    Never, ever take vacation... Especially
    not if I'm bored.

Nice and simple. Modified the HOSTS file of
    a non-techie co-worker's pc.

Now, when he tries to look for a new job
by typing in monster.com, he'll go to
    barneyonline.com. A big purple dinosaur
will pop up and sing to him.

    CNN.com, FoxNews.com and ABCNews.com all strangely
send you to each other's sites.

    The company's homepage is now
    landoverbaptist.org.

And his local ISP's home page
    now oddly resembles AOL's.

Such a simple thing... and he'll never figure
it out. Can't wait to hear Barney singing
    through his speakers on Monday...
And I found that hope and a lucky card
were all I had to walk with me...

I was thinking about baking some cookies with those chocolate laxatives. Put it in the office's kitchen and place a "do not eat" sign there. Then, when you see people running to the bathroom, you'll know who at the cookies
    That's kinda mean huh?

Jase, that's hilarious. How did you modify the host file? Where is it located? I might want to do that at my work as well

This HOSTS file is located here:

    Linux /etc
    Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\
    Windows NT/2000/XP c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\
    c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\
(you may need administrator access for Windows NT/2000)

also a good way to deflect pop ups and banner ads

Now that's a good one. I'll have to try that next week. Or better yet, when I go on vacation.
Shall we buy a new guitar?
Shall we drive a more powerful car?

Am I alone here? Is that it?
Am I the only one who sees.

Maybe we can learn to be just like him.

    Soong gave the locations...

You just need to pull up the HOSTS file in notepad and at the bottom, enter the IP of the site you want him to go to... and then the name of the site you think he'll type.

    So adding:

    255.255.255.0 www.disney.com

would send him to whatever site is at 255.255.255.0 when he types www.disney.com into his browser.

Lots of fun. Gotta look up some whacko conspiracy sites this weekend, and change it so the rest of his commonly used sites pull up various oddball conspiracy pages....
And I found that hope and a lucky card
were all I had to walk with me...
