I paid approx. $800 a year ago for an IBM 466 laptop. I know that computers, and even laptops have come down in price but most times when I see something in the $350-$500 price range, they are usually 166-266 MHZ refurbished or used no-name laptops
If you know of an IBM (which I like) with a last generation Pentium II for approx. $500, I would be curious to know where to find them.

IBMs generally hold their value more that other laptops - kind of like buying a used Lexus.

little too much for too little

I have to agree with DF, 1 GHz machines can be found in that price range if you look hard enough, especially refurb's.

Not IBM, tho. Used/refurb Thinkpads are still over $1k for 1GHz.

Thinkpads are extremely solid machines and they last for a looong time. That's why they hold their value so well.

Absolutely - IBM holds their value well, but I'd get a faster Dell instead!
