My wife weighs about 20 pounds less now than when we were married, so her wedding ring has been kind of loose for the past few years. A couple weeks ago, she noticed that it was missing. We have narrowed down the time of loss to a couple hours, but in that time she went to a resturant, a clothing store and worked in our garden. We've called the resturant and store and searched the garden several times with a metal detector. We've pretty much given up and consider it lost for good.
What do people usually do when this happens? Do you buy a new ring? If so, should I buy it for her (like a gift) or does she pick out her own? She is really upset, since she's worn it non-stop for over 17 years.
I've even thought about having my wedding band resized for her, since then she'd have that "17 year continuity" that she apparently values.
I guess what I'm asking is if there's a "standard" solution to this type of situation.
