Win Zip question

I am trying to compress a file that is 792mb, when I use WinZip it only compresses it down to 758mb. The problem is that I am trying to get it on one cd, is there a way to get it smaller than the 758mb?

try using winrar or stuffit. If its mp3s or jpegs, they usually will not compress much more since they are already highly compressed. Also try using a higher compression algorithm.

Its an Mpeg, how do I set the high compression algorithm?

mpegs are fairly compressed. use the slowest compression method using winzip. That may or maynot compress it enough to fit the CD. another alternative would be to edit the video and find a compression that will give a smaller filesize. There are several codecs that will help you, that is assuming you did the editting yourself.

Thanks, I got it using WinAce and messing around with the options.

I take that back, it didnt work. I still need this to be under 700mb if possible. Can someone assist me?

i would prolly cut it or i would try compressing with option of splitting it into files (i remember doing that back in the floppy disk age )

when you compress with winace, select the options tab and under volumes choose "CD-R (700 MB)". that will create multiple files with the biggest being 700mb.

or you can try winrar using multimedia compression. i dont know how much better it will work, but it supposedly compresses audio and video files better. you can also create multiple volumes with winrar

I think I've heard that .sit files (Stuffit) have the best compression/size ratio out there out of all compression apps, maybe try to use Stuffit to compress the file(s). (I could be wrong about this though)

Or as it's already been mentioned, you can use spanning files by setting a size preference and it will make as many files as it takes to compress the file(s) but each of the files will not go over that specified size ie 700 megs. A lot of programs on the net come as spanned WinACE or WinRAR files for all the dialuppers out there...that's what I mean by spanned archives.
