    speeding tickets!

has gotten a speeding ticket? if so, pay or fought it?

  2. #2
I've gotten 2. I paid on both. There is no sense on fighting a ticket if you really were speeding.

over-stated by how much? 30 over speed limit is a felony, at least in CA it is I believe. What were you doing in what zone? I paid mine and traffic school.

Wait, so if an officer had caught me when I was doing 95, I would've gone to jail?

    paid both times.

my first time, i got pulled over for doing 89 on freeway, but i think the cop was feeling nice or something, cuz he only put me down for 75, and since it was somewhere up near tracy, ca, the ticket only ended up costing me $25! i don't think i woulda been pushing my luck to argue that one...

he stated that i was driving over a 100mph and i was in AZ. it is cosidered a criminal offense. i have never gotten a ticket before and i not sure what this will do to my insurance. one last thing, i do not qualify for drivng school.

yes, he has the OPTION to send you to jail. If you're SUPER polite and apologetic, and have all your papers in order, then he probably wont send you to jail, but if you're a dickhead then you'll probably go to jail.

i got stopped doing 106 in a 70 in kansas... very polite, very professional cop. 2min later i drove off with a $135 ticket. I could've spent the night in jail and had my car impounded.

id say fight it. best case scenario cop doesnt show up and you case gets dismissed, no record. if the cop shows you probably have to pay the ticket or take traffic school

I think I was doing about 110 or so when I got pulled over...I don't remember what the speed limit was...but I know I was *WAY* over it...I was really nervous about going to court and stuff because of what could have happened like my licence getting suspended and trying to explain THAT to my parents, but I guess I got off lucky if that's what you want to call it, I had to do traffic school ( which I did online at my own pace ) and then pay $384....

I was delivering pizzas and got stopped by a state highway patrollman going 110 in a 55. He looked at me and the pizzas and asked if I was delivering pizzas, I said 'Yes sir'. He asked me where I was going with them and I said 'The hospital'. He asked if anyone over there was dying for pizza, I said 'No sir'. When I handed him my driver's license, he saw my military ID and asked if I was in the military. Of course the answer was 'Yes sir'.

He came back a couple minutes later and told me to drive safe, and didn't give me a ticket! It was probably toward the end of his shift (around midnight) so he may not have wanted to do all the paperwork. I'm sure this would've been reckless driving with my car being impounded. I wasn't going to argue, and drove off a lot slower.

    Sometimes you just get lucky.

You still haven't told us if your were, in fact, speeding. If you were going 85, and he said 90, just pay the fine. What are you going to do, go to court and say "I was only going 10 miles over the limit, and he says I was going 15..."?

I used to speed all the time. I probably got 6 speeding tickets in 4 years. Then I had an epiphany - if I don't speed, I won't get a ticket! Now I drive 55 in a 55 zone, 70 in a 70 zone, not even a mile over. It takes a little discipline, but it's worth it. I'm much more relaxed when I drive and I find I enjoy the quiet time alone.

I know what you're saying - "But my time is too important to sit in my car!" Well, 99 times out of 100 you're just going home to sit on your butt and watch TV.

6 tickets NO convictions. Got a lawyer to fight each one. Paid the lawyer less than it would have cost to pay the fine. No school, no record, no increase in insurance, no BS.

Dude, call one of those lawfirms that specialize in beating tickets. You will not be disappointed.

Go to court, ask the judge for a lower fine and the ability to go to traffic school.

When I was like 18 or so, I got a speeding ticket, but I went to court (wore a nice shirt and tie) and explained to the judge that "The sun was in my eyes" and I did not see the speed zone change.

She still found me guilty, but waived the fine

Haven't had a speeding ticket in years tho'.

Since Merlin like to drive fast he has had to pay the "speed premium" on occasion :hehe: I say fight the ticket. I've done that a couple of times and each time the cop didn't show up. I won by default. Typically if I get a ticket I'll just pay it.Traffic school is nice to keep your record clean nad all but remember, insurance rates don't change if you get a ticket. They only change if you get multiple tickets within a set period of time or if you have a ticket and accident. So if your record is clean who cares Save your Saturday. The question boils down to do you have more time or money? If you have more time fight it. There are plenty of resources on line to find all the tricks. With them you have a fairly decent chance of winning. If you have more money than time - just pay it and forget about it.

No clue how many points that was - i added up the tickets though and guessing on a few points i was really close to 8 or 9 i think total... i got a couple of stupid 2point tickets on the bike the same day one time, and i think 3 of the 4 tickets i've had have been on the bike. I've been ticket / warning free for over a year now, even though i do stupid stuff still...

Hoser - Its my understanding that if you have a military ID, its almost a guranteed "go free" card if your respectful and polite.

I think it has more to do with the fact that you work in the military.
I know in most cases, if you are in any sort of law enforcement agency or gov't related job, cops tend to let you off with a warning.

Yeah that's true, traffic violations usually stay on your record for 3 years. But hey, if you can't afford to speed, don't do it. Simple as that.

    not always.

for me, as soon as the insurance finds out i have a tix, they jack up my rates

now if i could just go like 3 years w/out a ticket, that would be nice. i seem to be on a once every two year cycle

actually, only one of them was for speeding.

    my history:
spring 1997: passing a schoolbus, with lights flashing. can anyone say "young and stupid"? (in my defense, there were two busses stopped, the back one didn't have its lights on, so i was up to the second bus before i saw the lights. stupid none the less.)

summer 1999: 35 in a 25 (clocked at 43mph). busted in a total speedtrap on a main street (i wasn't in a residential area), plus i wasn't paying attention to my speed at all.

winter 2002: failure to stop in clear and specified distance, aka rear-ending another car in traffic

so yeah, my problem isn't speeding, it's other stupid stuff.

I was in a 75 zone. I-40 and I was driving above the speed limit but not at over a 100. I just don't know what to do. This is the first speed thick I ever got in over of ten years of driving. Do anyone know how courts in AZ work?

I've only gotten one ticket. Believe it or not, it was for going 60mph on a 55mph zone of the freeway (this was back in the days when the federal limit was 55mph) at 2 AM in the morning. A couple of months later, they changed the speed limit there to 65mph. I was going to argue it, but the court date was gonna be on my finals week and I just didn't want to deal with it (I know... I could've delayed it, but I figured it wasn't worth all the effort). Paid the ticked 70 bucks and went to traffic school. Ran into a bunch of vietnamese people there and spent the whole day playing 13 cards. Oh... I also got a number from one of the girls in the group. All in all... not too bad.

BTW: bugaboo, if you wanna fight the ticket, then try to change the court day to when the cop isn't scheduled to go to court. He won't make the effort to go and you'll win by default. Normally, officers set certain days to go to traffic court. If you change your date to one that he didn't plan on going to traffic court, then he won't show up. If you don't have the time, just pay the ticket. One ticket in ten years shouldn't cause you any problems with your insurance (my one ticket didn't cause me any problems).

Does this factor in with accidents? I also heard that u should not change the date. If you do they will have the right to change it once too.
