video capture?

Ok...follow me on this one.

I take the output of my Tivo and put it through to my video in port of my Geforce 4. When I try to capture the input, the colors are distorted and it has a high pitched sound.

Is this some kind of protection? If so, how do I capture tv input without all that?

Have you tried it with other video sources? (Its possible TIVO uses copy protection to keep DVDs from being copied, but I don't have one, so I cant say.)
