    JVC QX1 Projector. Always Backordered.

Sheesh, I can't believe how many rich people there are in this world. Apparently, there's a waiting list to buy the JVC DLA-QX1 projector, which lists for $220,000 without lens (yep, quarter of a million dollars and you still have to buy a lens).

    JVC DLA-QX1

2048x1536 native resolution, full 1080p ready
    7000 ANSI lumens
    >1000:1 contrast ratio
Uses a 2000 watt Xenon bulb
    10 bit color processing

For reference, those super-bright xenon headlights you see on high end BMW's and things are 30 watts.

2kW??? that must be blinding to look at directly . i would think that there would be more demand for these things in business than for homes. the specs are awesome, i want one in my theater, you probably wont even have to turn off the lights.

The high brightness is for high rollers, with home theater rooms with screens upwards of 50' wide (and for businesses and theaters, of course). The bigger the screen, the higher the lumen rating you need. Heck, I'm on a 3000 lumen projector and an 80" screen.

also, how much does the lens for this beast run?

Bulb? Just into the 5 digits I think. Lens, about 30-60k, depending on throw distances and lens shift capabilities.

So thats probably going to be less than 500 movies....which means that I would have to replace that bulb every 2 years or so (assuming that I used that projection system exclusively). Ouch, that would be expensive.

i think that 1000 hours is a bit low. the bulbs are gas discharge which have longer life than bulbs using a filament, but these do use a lot higher voltage than most bulbs ive seen.

Most large venue xenon arc lamps have a life of between 500 and 1000 hours, with a few very rare ones doing 1500.

If you could afford the projector and lens, you can afford the bulbs and electricity.
