Chances are that you have socket370, that's the one that looks pretty much like a square on your motherboard, slot 1 looks like a slot on your motherboard (similar to the agp or pci slots), what is your motherboard, if you list that, someone should be able to tell you.

Like Chosenfool said, definitely use distilled water! You will get much better performance out of your setup if you use an additive such as Ethyl-Glycol (auto radiator coolant) or Water Wetter (from Red Line Oil products). These additives also contain anti-corrosives that will make a big difference if the system you're using has dissimilar metals. If you mix metals in your system - aluminum and copper for instance - you will get a "battery effect" that will begin to corrode the surfaces of your fittings. Over time this corrosion will begin to affect your cooling performance.

Sure you dont want to just try a better heatsink/cooler? Do you have fans in you case? Maybe the base of the heatsink isnt mounted right(hard to do). You can try decent thermal paste and another fan in the case. A lot less work and less money than a h2o system.
    either way good luck,

No offensebut water cooling isnt an easy, everyday system, and from your posts I've gathered you arent terribly hardware minded, so I dunno if water cooling is a good idea.

My suggestion is to get a heatsink and fan for the cpu and 2 large case fans, maybe a pci exhaust system as well.

    re

it might not sound like i am very hardware minded or anything but i could make things work if i wanted them to. i dont venture into my case all that often cause i dont need to. i will problaby just go with the more fans route than the water cooling. but still u cant say water cooling wouldnt be cool
