MS winodws XP Media Center Edition

    Win XPMCE?

This brings the number of windows XP versions to 5.

Users will have a remote control to access songs, pictures, tv listings, etc. You will have to buy a new system to get the ne features, since it is not going to be an upgrade.

I like the concept of a remote controlled mp3 player, but i'm not sure if it will be a sucess. Toshiba and a few other manufacturers sold remotes with their systems a few years ago, and they eventually were EOL'd due to poor sales.

I'll pass, thanks. I don't like my OS to do too much of the thinking for me...

i dont like the idea of a computer dedicated to be a remote control multimedia system. with all the PVRs, DVD players with mpeg video and mp3 playback and picture viewers, cd/mp3 players and more which all come with remotes, some with onscreen display, most probably wont need a dedicated entertainment computer. aside from a monopolistic view, i dont see a reason for new hardware for this OS. all you need is an external (internal wouldnt be hard either) IR or RF reciever which hooks up to a usb (1.1 or 2.0), serial, parallel or what ever other standard ports on a computer.

i already do this with the help of creative. my SB Live 5.1 platinum came with a remote which can control many multimedia programs along with its own which plays cd's, dvd's, mp3's and videos.
