    Apple makes I-Pod for Windows

    Linky

Apple is cutting the current models by 100 bucks and doubling the size of it's latest model in the newer model. All three should be Windows compatible.

    Woohoo!

This is one thing I'll definitely give Apple credit for. That is one sexy MP3 player, and easy to use as well. I may have to actually get one now.

posted in deals. Also added a remote and case to the 10 & 20 gb models, and cut the size on those models by 10%

The iPod is certainly a sweet device, but I would add 2 things:

    1) CompactFlash slot - to dump images from the digital camera & use it as a Digital Wallet

    2) User upgradable hard drive. I can get a 40GB 2.5" drive for under $150 - that would be cool if I could swap that for the standard 5GB drive.

it uses a toshiba PCMCIA drive, which keeps the price high. A CF fash slot would be cool. I assum somebody will make a cf adaptor to plus into the firewire port. There is an FM tuner available, which i think has the same approach.

theres nothing about the hardware that doesn't make it windows compatable, it just needs software, and i imagine you can download that off of apples website shortly.

actually, they are listed as 2 different product ID's. The windows model comes with an adaptor for 6 pin firewire to 4 pin (iLink). I think the firmware may be different as well, since it uses HFS as the filesystem, and MS only designs windows to see their file systems when connected to it.

The windows models are supposed to ship in august i believe. So, I am assuming they are different.

    Edit:
The windows version probably will work on a mac if it uses a MS filesystem, since the mac can them. That would allow people to "switch" from PC to mac with ease and not have to worry about buying a new iPod. Based on apples wanting people to switch, you would assume they would be interchangeable. Hmmm, maybe the adaptors the only difference then. I am curious if apple posted something regarding this.
