    good midsize tv?

Who makes good midsize tv's (somewhere around 26 inches)? I know a couple of companies to stay away from, but what i want to know is who makes the good ones?

Panny also makes some good ones near that size.

depends on how you define "good"

i have a 25" sanyo, and i'm happy with it, although it definitely isn't the highest-resolution TV on the market. it was only ~$250 though.

if you're looking for really good resolution though, look elsewhere (the sanyo is decent, but it's definitely not amazing)

I think RCA is the crappiest tv maker around. That being said, everytime I look at a sanyo tv, I think to myself, "my god, that looks crappier than an RCA."

    hehe.

I've got a Mitsubishi 26" TV in my bedroom that was bought in 1987. It works fine, but the remote died. I just use the universal remote that came with my Panisonic VCR.

ha! that's funny -- yeah, i think RCAs suck too.

overall, i'm happy with my sanyo, although if i had known everything i know now about home theater and TVs, etc, i would definitely get something with better resolution.

someday, i'll replace it, but that will probably be after law school

I have an 17 inch RCAa and it works fine. I also have a 27 inch Samsung I got for $270. No Svideo inputs, but it has two composite (YWR) inputs, and a digital comb filter. Also has an audio out.

In my opinion. If you're looking at all the TVs at best buy or circuit city you can tell the difference in picture quality because tey are sitting next to each other, but when you bring it home and there is nothing to compare it to, it will look okay.

I would say go with a Toshiba Cinema Series TV. I have one, and its great. On top of that, when I worked at Good Guys, it was the brand of choice among the video and audio specialists. We didnt make money selling it, but it always made the customer happy. High quality picture, better sound (although I wouldnt know about that since I dont use the tv speakers), lots of features...well worth it.

The people I am house sitting for have a new panasonic Tau and comparing that to my Toshiba...its night and day. The Toshiba kicks its a$$ all over the place. I even went through and fixed their entire AV system since they had it set completely wrong and it didnt fix the picture.

The Sony XBR's have comparable pictures to the Toshiba Cinema Series, but you pay through the nose for them.

    Hope that helps.
Welcome my son, welcome to the machine...Where have you been? It's alright we know where you've been....

I'll toss in another vote for Toshiba...I've had one for 4 years now and its great.

One thing to look at when comparing TV's is the "whites". Good TV pictures should have the whites look crisp and not "greyish".

My vote goes to Toshiba as well. I've had my Toshiba Cinema Series 32" now for 3 years with flawless use. My Toshiba has one of the best power supplies I've seen. Using AVIA to test the features of the tv it past everyone.

When I was buying my Toshiba I was comparing it to a Sony Trinitron TV. The Sony was to bright, harsh and while having all the same
features as the Toshiba was still about $200 more (that name game).
The Toshiba has a warmer image and better colour saturation but that is only my opinion.

As for RCA, you get what you pay for but my 27" RCA from 5 years ago was decent. I was not into home theater etc then and I only had a VCR but it work very well and is still running great, even the remote.

More of my daily two cents.

    Cheers,
    Scott
