Neverwinter Nights *could have been* the best CRPG ever.
Everything was great...until the dreaded chapter 3. I didn't know it was dreaded until I read Bioware's forums. Lockups as far as the eye can see. I can't get through the fort in chapter three-mine locks up after only a few minutes.
play for two minutes, lockup, restart, play for a minute, lockup, reboot, play for two minutes, lockup...is no way to play a game.
Shame on you Atari and Bioware. Wizards of the Coast gave you a work of art, what could have been the best computer role playing game ever, and you stopped play testing it after chapter 2.

damn...i didn't know about that...
good thing i stopped at chapter 2. now i'l never restart =)

maybe its the latest patch. I'm on chapter 4 and haven't had any freezing.
Some of the people here have already beat the game too.

I would have thought so too, were it not for the threads in the bioware technical support forum. People all over the place are reporting non consistant lock ups with every version of the game. I'm taking a break from it.
I hope in a few patches they will have it ironed out. With my limitted research, it appears to have someting to do with the swapfile / pagefile in windows. People get lockups with every video card and with the sound off. I'm thinking of installing it on my Win98 system (P3-800 with 512M) at see if I can get past chapter 3.
I'll play it again after a few more patches come out.

I beat the game weeks ago and never had any technical problems. Don't forget, even if there are 500 posts in the technical forum thats less than 1% of teh people who own the game, so it may seem like a huge deal, but prolly isnt.

personally, even 1 bug is not acceptable for a game that's 50+ $.... so I only buy second hand game
(average 20$/game)

and like windows doesn't have any bugs either =)
btw a great way to extend the life of NWN or forgo the crappy built in campaign is to do modules. I'm doing the penultimate series. Great stuff.

i beat the game a couple of weeks ago... didn't have any lockups or freezes... only time it ran slow was when my comp started a virus check that i forgot to turn off... even then.. it was just slow... no lockup though...

Its unrealistic to never expect a bug to slip through ever.
I really wish it was a random lockup or crash...its not. There are certain places in chapter 3 that are consistant lockups. For me, its Fort Ilard, right after I kill the first wizard behind the gate. I get the same lockup on my P4 running XP and my P3 running Win98se.
I'm going to wait for a few more patches, then play it. I also read that one way to make the game more stable was to play it as a multiplayer game, with max players set to 1.
