Possibly good deal on 3DFX/STB 16MB AGP Voodoo2 Graphics Card .
$9.26 after coupon & rebate.
Is 3DFX/STB 16MB AGP Voodoo2 Graphics Card can plug into PCI slot?
Its model number was LIghtspeed 3300.
I was ordering this card at overstock, the title says it is AGP but at detail it says PCI version.
Here is link to that page. http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2....l=GENERIC&fp=T
I heard that this video card can be either PCI or AGP depends on wihch slot I plug into.
Since I don't have AGP slot on my motherboard, I'll have to buy PCI version.
I also check on 3dfx page but it only states Voodoo 2 1000 PCI.
Please comment.

If it says AGP then it's AGP, if it says PCI then it's PCI, personally I would love to get a AGP since the original purpose for AGP slot is for Graphic cards only. And supposely, AGP graphic card would be faster than PCI slot graphic card.
But again, it's just my personal opinion.

Sounds to me like it's a Banshee card-- Voodoo2's were 3d only, and only were as high as 12mb (unless you got a 24mb card that was really 2 V2's on one board)... plus the STB Banshee cards weren't called Lightspeed, I don't think... It says it has 2D so it HAS to be a Banshee...
It's probably a 16mb AGP OR PCI Banshee, and no, you can't plug a PCI card into an AGP slot or vice versa. Call to find out. Picture looks like an AGP...
Banshees were really underrated cards, especially for $10.
My dad still has one in his P3/550 (mainly used for his business) and it plays most games quite decently. (Won't satisfy any Quake heads, but for a casual gamer it's great..)
AGP isn't usually much more than 10% faster than PCI for the same card (if that much).. mostly ended up a lot of marketing hype...

I think I've seen a card that was AGP and PCI - it had AGP on one side and PCI on another, because the slots are obviously not the same. Just thought I'd mention that they exist, but whether or not this is one I'm not sure. Generally I'd shoot for AGP, because AGP only has one use whereas PCI has millions, but whatever.

Oh, also meant to ask - what coupon and rebate, because I'd be interested in that deal too. It's priced at $59.26 now, so how are you going to drop $50 off that?

Definitely go AGP. As said in an earlier post, its designed only for video cards.

There were some interesting tests done on the Voodoo3 when they came out. Due to a flawed implementation of the AGP spec by 3dfx, the PCI and AGP versions produce identical results.

not seeing anything about a rebate...

You can get the rebate from www.3dfx.com there is currently a $30 rebate until july 31, 2000.
Wasn't there a coupon for overstock.com before?

There are $20 off $50 overstock coupon.
I think it is being counted automatically when you are the first time customer.
I just bought Voodoo 3 2000 PCI from local staples at $70 and $30 mail-in rebate.
My final price will be $40.
