    windows xp activation time extension

ok, i found this today at work.

    go here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/p...eploytools.asp

download the deployment tools (you can make an automated XP install. Pretty cool)

i forget the name of the app, but there is an app in there that will allow you to setup the system as if you were an OEM manufacturer. You can set the system up as a first time boot and it will automatically extend the activation date to a full 30 day period. everything else worked the same after the extension was made. You are required to restart the system to get that extra time. I assume you can repeatedly do this to keep from ever having to update the system

best of all, M$ is the one providing the tool to do it.

Sorry if this is a repost. I had never seen it before so i figured others would be in the same boat as i am.

Just curious - why don't you want to activate it?

    Or shouldn't I ask?

since i dont run windows at home, I have no use for it. In my office, we have a site liscense as well as individual per CPU liscense. We often format systems and start from scratch. Systems usually last 30-45 days before reformat. Since we dont always use the same serial on the smae machine, it eliminates the hassle.

Getting a site key is also a big PITA because we have to fill out tons of paper work.
