Just got a call from cable co - 100GB uploaded in a month

I just talked to my cable company. They said that I uploaded 100GB last month! I'm impressed. I have Kazaa lite running almost 24/7, and I'm sharing a lot of stuff. One day was 5.5GB! My downloads were 10GB for the month. Anyhow, I've gotta get a limit the uploads or they're going to shut me down.

Wow, that's crazy. What is your upload bandwidth?

    Question What are they saying?

Are they threatening to cancel your contract? Do you still have a copy of it? you should look at it and see what they say you are doing wrong.. its not like you are uncapping the system.. that would make sense to cancel your contract.. but they are like the water company saying to take too many showers even though you pay for the water.. they really dont have the right to do that... i realize this is different because its a fixed price no matter how much you upload but they made the contract..... besides, you are just making up for all the old couples who have cable modems and are not taking advantage of their uploading abilities... and you are helping the underpriviledged children who can't afford to pay for 25 dollar cd's... You are truly a hero in my eyes...

Shaw cable - $30 per month Canadian is about $20 USD. They do cancel you service if they warn you that you're overtaxing the system.

As for what the contract says, I'm pretty sure that there is something in there that says they can cancel it at any time for any reason. You know how the fine print reads.

Most broadband companies have a clause that either limits your bandwidth use, or restricts you from running a 'server'. This is because they have a finite amount of bandwidth available, and they try to prevent people from hogging excessive amounts. This is a perfectly legitimate reason for a broadband company to cancel your contract, so i6s1, you might want to shut it off at night or something. The cable company would rather not have your $49/mo if you're going to be using that much of their pipe.

Yeah, I capped it to one upload at 24kbps. I only uploaded about 70 megs yesterday by my math that puts me right on pace for 2GB per month, which they're ok with.

Thanks for the link. That's much better than the speed test site I was using.

We're at 768K down and 768k up. Not bad, considering we're paying for 384/256!
