What do you guys think is a good video card around somewhere between $35-$75? Basically it will be used for gaming like Fifa2000, Counterstrike, things like that. GeForce2 Pro 64mb the best bet?

The GeForce 4 MX line are GeForce2 with a few new features.
The RADEON 9000 is within that price range. And there's also the Radeon 8500 LE.
The Geforce3 Ti200 is close to your price range. As is the Radeon 9000 Pro.
If you can swing it, spend a bit more and get the GF4 Ti4200.

I think I'm in the same boat as you.
my geforce2 pro is dying on me, and need a replacement.
I was thinking about the geforce3 ti 200
seeing it on pricewatch for about 70 bucks.
I was hoping to get one for 50 though.
so, I was looking at geforce2 ti's
how does the ti's with the geforce2's go, I'm seeing a geforce2 ti vx.
what's vx? never heard of it.
also, with nvidia....what are the N24 "codenames"?
which numbers describe which chips?

Or you can do this and up your OpenGL performance of the card, also turning it into a more expensive card in the process =0)
Laudanum: Radeon 9000 64mb is the best choice there.
attgig: The GeForce2 Ti is the die shrink of the GeForce 2. 0.18 to 0.15 micron. The GeForce2 Ti has a faster core 250MHz core and same memory speed {400MHz memory} as the GeForce 2 Pro {core speed 200Mhz}. Unfortunately the memory wasn't increased-it is what holds back that line. Therefore, tests show it to be a bit faster than the Pro and overclocks better.

If you are a game player, try to swing a GF3 Ti200.
Those cards do support OpenGL fully. Speed wise and features wise these cards lag behind the Radeon 9000.

I was just about to order and remembered that the motherboard doesnt have any AGP slots (the video card was onboard). So now the only thing I can really find (which isnt too expensive) for PCI is the Radeon 7000. Will that do the trick?

attgig: yes, that card is good although I think 8500 LE would be better bang for buck.
Laudanum: The Radeon 7000 (same as Radeon VE but no dual monitor) comes with 1 pipeline with 3 texturing units. Other Radeons come with 2 pipelines with 3 texturing units per pipeline. Also the Radeon 7000 uses 64-bit DDR-SDRAM and no T&L engine. In short the Radeon 7000 aka RadeonVE is a crippled card.

went over to new egg, and just put radeon for the search criteria.
I'm seeing radeon 9000's cheaper than 8500 LE's.

8500LE 128 meg for $96
8500DV 64 meg for $99
So, is the $20 worth it for a faster GPU, or if I were to spend the extra, would it be better spent on more memory?
