Can anyone recommend a good pci tv tuner card with a remote? It seems like Hauppage is the one my friends have so I'm just wondering if anyone else can vouch for it or any other manufacturer.
And yes, I did miss out on the $6 Hauppage card.

Hauppauge cards are very nice. If you are looking for an all in one card then check out the 3dfx Voodoo 3500. Although these video cards are capable of doing video capture, the quality is not that great. But if the reason you're looking to get a tv card is just to watch tv on you comp, then either one is a great investment. I personally have the 3500 and it allows me to hook up my vcr and camcorder to it. If you hook a vcr up to the tv card, you can use the vcr's remote to change channels.

i have the hauppauge win-tvgo card. i also purchased a device called irman, which is an infra red receiver that attatches to a serial port. it allows me to control win-tv, power dvd, winamp, and basically anything else i want to control on my computer. it will even control normal windows functions, such as mouse movement, closing windows, shutting down, etc. it's really cool!

I own two TV cards -- one in each of the computers I have..
I had a STB TV Tuner (that was the name, I believe).. and it was excellent. Never had any problems until I upgraded my computer to my Viper V770 and then nothing but problems.. I couldn't use the most recent drivers for the V770.. STB (now 3dfx) blamed Diamond, and Diamond blamed STB. So I solved it by buying a new card.. I purchased the Hauppauge Win TV (before the recent deal) and I have been mildly pleased with it. It still gets "grainy" every once in a while, especially if I am using a lot of resources, and the full screen mode works some of the time.. I put the STB in my fiancee's computer and it still works great..
my recommendation -- check out the 3dfx TV card.. it should be priced about $125 or so and it's a good deal if your video card can support it.. the 3dfx Voodoo 3500 includes this TV card in it (on one card I believe).. so that may be a good value..
oh well.. best of luck.

I would have to say Bunkness to any tv-tuner card these days. I have an ati-tv tuner (which is a POS) and my friend has a Happauge win-tv. These both are adequate cards but, they both have too many problems, the most frustrating is the mouse cursor disapears frequently and when it happens it is permanent until a reboot. This problem happens on both cards. I would instead recommend a video convertor box. Check out the vbox at http://www.z64.com/ All you do is hook it up with a vcr and BAM! Problem solved. Flawless performance and no headache of crashing, plus you have that remote too. Also the picture quality will be excellent, even better than a regular tv depending on how good your monitor is. This is because of no emf distortion inside the computer.

spigidy- that sounds cool but I don't think it does capture- which is why I need it at least... i would get it if I could record stuff..

Don't try Planetville. (planetville.com). They offer a free card but don't deliver.

Hmm, then I'd recommend getting a card from pinnacle systems. Maybe a dc10 or dc30.
