i'm with ya on this one.. i'd like it to be a surprise.. its one of the many things I don't want control of.. if you pick the gender, and the kid turns out to be a nuissance, you can blame yourself becacuse you chose the gender.. it could have been the other gender..![]()
Yeah...another pimp to run the family business!!

but if everyone wanted boys.. like in China, where they practiced killin off the girls or aboring if they knew it was a girl... then if this gets to a global scale, where will all the ladies be?Originally posted by DarkFury
"IF" we could... yeah, I'd choose havin' a boy anyday. Pretty much, you have to have a lil' man to carry the name.
(but I did get lucky and get a boy on my first try. Wheeeee!!!!! )of course if they are no more ladies left, you can go for the "alternative".. no thanks..

Too much testosterone = broken stuff
I would, and I want a girl and a boy.
I just want the girl so I can be the most evil father ever and scare the hell out of the boys' she brings home![]()
haha. nija you're funny.
anyway, hm, i was thinking about it. nah, i wouldn't want to be able to choose the sex of my kid. i want it to be a surprise. but these days, don't doctors almost always tell you the sex of the baby? it seems like people very rarely are surprised--they all know ahead of time
i want both, boy first, girl second.
ya just gotta have a girl, they may not pass on their names but they're the ones who still come back to the family once they're married.
I wouldn't.
Its understandable there are times when people might.

For countries that do this: that means the competition for brides will become even greater, women will become even more valued and there will be more of a selection of a mate for 'em. In short instead of dowry's coming with a bride as done now, dowry's will have to be paid for a bride.Originally posted by NuTs62

the few people I've known who've been preggers lately have all had the option to know the sex of their baby. I only knew two couples that didn't want to know, and just kept the results in a sealed envelope. But it seems most people wanna know so they can start getting clothes and doing the baby room up and crap like that... doesn't matter that the baby is nekkid for the first couple of months anywaysOriginally posted by creampuff

hmm, docs will tell you what the sex of your child is, only if you ask. You can always request not to know. And also, this is a lil different than the doc telling you what sex your child is, because in this case, you are actuallying picking it out instead of it being random.Originally posted by creampuff

True true, but if many people have their way, they will have boys, well, at least I think of it that way. And to carry on the family name... What family name will there be to carry on if you have no one to mate with? Of course there are always test tubes to create the women population in the world..Originally posted by DarkFury
Not everyone wants boys... I was just expressing my own personal opinion on the subject which did not include trying to detail the "world female shortage".
That IS ok with you... right?![]()
and no, you aren't entitled to your own opinion.. it isn't ok with me!![]()
hehe.. i wasn't tryin to get at your case..

hehe.... biting CAN be good...
but.... i would choose if i could... i would prefer a boy first... then a girl... then hell - give me another boy after.
u gotta have the older boy, to be the protecter of the others, he'll back his sis up when she'll be gettin all these guys chasin her n stuff. ya know.... smackdown.
i didnt think i'd ever want a girl, but then my lil cousin was born.... and she's just toooo cute. she just turned 4 yesterday. i think u gotta have a girl around too.
Ya i'd probably choose a guy and then a girl later on. One of each.
we're hoping for a girl![]()
i have become comfortably numb......
hmmmm....good thread. i don't think i'd ever want the option to choose! it would somehow take the magic out of the whole thing. we had a little boy 14 months ago. he's a ton of fun and i'm glad i didn't have a choice 'cuz i might have chosen a girl and missed the opportunity to have him. i do like knowing the gender though. i wanted to know but my wife didn't so the doctor only told me the gender. it was fun trying to keep it from her the whole time! i do hope we have a girl next time though...

Nah, I've got my one of each. If there is ever a third, I don't care what sex it is.
My SIL's both have all boys, and the one is trying different methods to concieve a girl. It will be interesting to see if it works.

We found out with Josh (well, she was 60% sure it was a boy. lol).
We wanted to find out. Figured that the birth (especially since it was our first) was surprise enough.
But no, I wouldn't want to pick the gender. My friend Kathryn would, I'm sure. She has 3 boys and would love a girl.![]()

I would want to know the sex of the first child, but I definitely wouldn't want to choose it.
You could have it all

I would. One thought: raising teenage daughters. ::shudder:: I don;t think I could handle the stress.
And raising teengage sons would be easier?![]()
Raising children at any age is a b*tch. I always feel like i take my parents for granted. I guess you just have to raise them with good morals and values and trust them.
yea but that's cuz dads apply the double standard. his son can go out and 'score' and he's the man. but if anyone lays a finger on his daughter, he's a goner.Originally posted by DarkFury
Probably a lil less worrysome with having boys rather than being a Dad with a shotgun protectin' his lil girls from the boys.![]()

Yeah boys are more likely to get into trouble though.
Thats the way life goes. And there more "double standards" applied to men.

right, I wasn't saying its easier to raise boys, but less stressful. If my teenage son gets into trouble its his fault. If my teenage daughter gets into trouble, its my fault. Its a double standard, but heck, thats the way the world works. And frankly, I couldnt bear the thought of my daughter being out with a bunch guys who want to do to her, what I want to do to girls now.![]()
Less stressful? I would think not. Might be interesting to get opinions from those who raised and have grown children of both sexes.
If your teenage son gets into trouble, its your responsibility. If your teenage daughter gets into trouble, its your responsibility.
