Acclaim talks BMX XXX

In an official statement, Acclaim gives their response in to regards of the controversy over BMX XXX.

They make a good point in the press release. This game is no different to a lot of other games and movies released in the market today. To have stories go through the trouble of banning this game is rather silly. Wal-mart didn't ban American Pie but they did ban BMX XXX...Toy's R Us didn't ban Grand Theft Auto III but they banned BMX XXX...

Are they worried they will sell the game to some kid even though it's rated "M"?

I think I have to agree with Acclaim, despite the fact that I railed against them when they first announced this game. There is a different standard between games and other media (music, movies, tv, etc). I think it's a perception and stereotype issue. Generally people associate gamers as anti-social hackers or something along those lines. Gamers are not accepted as normal with people in decision making positions (government officials) and the media. To put a different standard on games than movies is discriminatory. Thus, I really despise Senators and Reps when they start talking about games. They have no idea what they're talking about.

With that said, a game like BMXXXX has no place in the gaming world. Who wants to see heavy pixelated boobies?

Nicely said! It is pointless to make this game or at least wtih the topless riders and animals doing it to be funny. Why did we need a game with naked chicks riding a bike? It's suppose to be a funny game with great BMX action but all anyone around the office here talks about is getting to see them great "pixels".

Is it wrong to ban this game? Yes, otherwise why have a rating system, why make rated R movies? Do we really want video games to head down this road? Man I hope not. If this games sells big then everyone is going to have games just like it out there, and that's just sad!

Yes and no.. But then again, when you are 11 years old, just seeing the outline of a boob was all that mattered.. heh.. I believe in a few you got to, maybe even only far away side views, but still.. that was the best game ever made.. Sierra was teh rulest!!!111 too bad they sold out to Vivendi.. They need new spacequest and leisure suit larry games..

LSL was one funny game but I don't recal there ever being topless gals ever.

Heck I remember playing the first original all text version of LSL. You type in what you want him to do and text would pop up showing the results...crap I feel old!

I remember playing the text version too.. too fun.. hours of sitting there and my grandparents asking me "what the hell are you playing?? and I'd say, nothing.. i'm chatting." Big mistake when they saw me type "Put on lubber" (hehe.. too funny)

You never got to actually SEE boobs up close, but you got to see boobs..

I remember when my grandfather was going to take my college funds and invest them.. I got Sierra's stock portfolio and told him to invest in that.. he said "It doesn't seem like they are going anywhere.. I'm going to put it in mutual funds instead" I was so pissed to find out my $5,000 turned into $1,200.. and then sierra made it big and sold to a big company.. then came half life.. and blizzard, and etc..

I honestly dont see the problem. If the game is rated "M" then why should the seller be worried about the game being sold to young kids. If they follow their own rules while selling the game then they shouldnt have to be worried about lawsuits or things of that nature. Even if they were they could do something like signing a waiver or something at the time of purchase.

I think this is just a stunt to make themselves look good to all the holy rollers out there and try and break into the whole church going market.

BTW LSL games were the coolest hehe

Yeah I agree. They also got pushed or prodded into it. I mean, you can have the most violent and sexual movie and people would flock to it, but you can have the same content in a video game and people will denounce it.

Amen! Too many people assume that since it's a video game only kids play them. Therefore companies are trying to turn kids into sex hounds and killers! These people need to get a clue! Over 60% of gamers today are 18 and older!

Spread the word! Let the people know video games are not crushing the inocents of children! The peopel who put an "M" rate game in a child's hands are!

Acclaim to Edit Nudity from Version of 'XXX' Game

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Acclaim Entertainment Inc. (NasdaqSC:AKLM - news) on Monday said its controversial video game "BMX XXX" will not contain topless nudity in the version to be released for Sony Corp (news - web sites).'s (6758.T) PlayStation 2 (news - web sites) console later this month.

Some of the nation's leading retailers, including Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT - news) and Toys R Us Inc. (NYSE:TOY - news), have said they will not carry the game because of subject matter that also includes strippers, pimps and coarse language and features the tagline "Keep It Dirty."


In the edited version of the game, players will be unable to create topless female characters for stunt-bike sequences, Acclaim spokesman Alan Lewis told Reuters.


Versions of the game for Microsoft Corp.'s (NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) Xbox (news - web sites) and Nintendo (news - web sites) Co. Ltd.'s (7974.OS) GameCube will not be edited, Glen Cove, New York-based Acclaim said.


"BMX XXX" for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox are launching Nov. 15 and for GameCube closer to the end of the month. All three versions had been scheduled for a Nov. 19 launch.


"I would say that the distribution continues to expand," Acclaim Chief Executive Gregory Fischbach told Reuters. "The distribution on it is pretty good."


Fischbach said the game will still have distribution through major specialty game retailers and music and video retail chains.


So far major retailers have not indicated they would roll back on their initial decision not to carry the game, he said. Best Buy Co. Inc. (NYSE:BBY - news) said last month, however, it would consider selling an edited PS2 version.


In reporting its fiscal fourth-quarter results in October, Acclaim said its results for the current quarter might be hurt by limited distribution for the game.


Changes to the game for the edited Sony version were "done with good taste and in humor," like the decision to place the title "BMX XXX" in black lettering over the tops of the previously nude women, Fischbach said.
