It seems everyone out there now has an award show. like the emmy's, the grammy's, mtv, blah, blah, blah. I figure, why can't we have an award show?
I'd say the first award goes to hang10. his award is entitled, "best friend on the neverland ranch."

I for one belive if we are going to do it, lets do it right. Have 15-20 categories (I.E Best avatar, Most intellectual poster, Most ignored, biggest neffer, etc etc). Then have the community vote. If we can get some categories firmed up, I'll be more than happy to tally the votes.
My suggestions for categories:
Best Avatar - obvious
Most Intellectual Poster - The member who adds the most with his or her posts, not jsut replying for the sake of replying...
Most Ignored - obvious
Biggest Neffer - Although this person may deny it, the one who generally posts just to post...
Most attractive - One award for guy/girl, must have a picture located in the forums for everybody to see.
Thats all I can come up with right now... its too damned early. (And yes, 1145 is early for the unemployed. =)
Like I said, get some gategories together and I'll take care of a vote...

neffing (or 'gotmilking') is posting crap just so your post count goes up, or for other reasons.

i agree with chosen.
for a long time, post count was the only measure of a person's "value" around here, at least in the eyes of many people.
obviously, that was something of a warped way to measure this, and i think it created a number of problems. so postcounts were hidden, which was weird at first but i think it has eliminated some of the obvious neffing.
but if we were to start giving out awards for "most articulate", "best content", "most helpful", "most sympathetic/encouraging" (my vote would go to kim for that one), etc, then maybe it would set up a standard for people to stive for that was a positive goal, rather than a competition to see who could post the most "i'm with stupid" similies.
as for how the awards should be determined, i think that popular voting should at least play a part in it. perhaps it should be 50% popular vote, 50% owner/GAM vote. i think including the GAMs in the vote is especially important because they are so much more in touch with who posts what than most of us are.
i know people have started "who's your favorite poster" treads before, and it's easy to forget people when you're trying to make a list. but some of the GAMs pretty much remember every post that has ever been made around here, and could be much better judges of who actually is contributing.
alternatively, maybe the GAMs could make the list of "finalists" for each award (with input from the public) and then everyone could vote on who they thought the winners should be.
however it's done, i definitely think this is an idea with some promise.
How are we going to make these awards visable. I recomend little GIFs that we can put on our sigs. Possibly trophys or shields similar to the rank shields.
