Just wanted to give you one point of view on changers. Although they are convenient. . . if someone steals that player, there goes your collection of cds. . . Also for that same price you could get a better quality single loading player. Just a word advice nothing more.

Who could possibly remember even 100 CD's that they had in a changer. now thats just confusing
-
that's why you print out an indexed list... or allow your computer to control it.

Actually, the insurers I know of won't even cover anything that isn't bolted to the car (i.e., CD cases). Had my entire CD collection ripped off on Christmas, along with a phone that was in a hands free cradle. Neither was covered under auto insurance, only homeowners (don't ask me why). So be happy you got your floor mats replaced, they must have been pretty nice if they cost $250...nicer if someone wanted to steal what are basically sample-sized pieces of carpet

the not bolted to the car thing i understand, cuz i then i could just say i had my sony vaio in there hooked up for browsing whilst driving (if i wanted to maximize the driving experience peetz), so reimburse me my $3000 dammit.
i think a changer is more conventient, and i've never planned on getting something stolen when i bought it...so the idea of cutting ur losses on a buying a single loader to not lose as much later when it gets stolen i don't understand...ack! me branes ahurtin! where's my d2?!? pops!

why are you guys assuming that he wants the changed for his car? something that big would probably only be suitable for the home.

I'm an Insurance Adjuster and it's true, most policies have exclusions for items not bolted down or for personal property (i.e. cell phones, cd's, cassettes, sony vaio systems). Some policies have a limit of $200 for personal property in vehicles. However, it's your homeowner's policy that will provide coverage. They generally cover personal property (to a max limit) "anywhere in the world" - ex. you're on vacation, someone steals your golf clubs, or your skis or whatever, who ya gonna call?....your homeowners insurance company. Of course, most renters don't bother with homeowners, and in that case you're SOL. If you're a college student, and you still live at home when not at school, call your parents home owners company. Of course, your deductible still applies - bummer.
That's all for this session of insurance 101. Seriously, if someone has a question about auto or homeowners insurance, ask me and I might know, or know how to find out. i'd be glad to help.

i am still under my parents homeowners insurance even though i live 3 hrs away. the policy is that they are allowed to have 10% of total value not under their roof. so anything of mine that gets stolen would be covered (that is, if it's less than the 10% value and i pay the deductible).

man... amazing i didn't even know they had 400 cd changer for your car... i wanted one for my home theatre...
-
Damn, I might have 200 cd's, but I wouldn't want to listen to 200 of them every day. That's why I got a standalone Phillips cd burner. I made 6 cd's full of songs I wanted to listen to for my cd changer in my car. That way, I wouldn't scratch any of my cd's or have them stolen! I think it's worth the money.

this ISN'T for a car, right? I'm assuming its for home audio...but everyone seems to think it is...

Why the blazes does everybody think this is for his car. You couldn't even listen to 400 frickin' cd's if you drove from New York to Los Angeles!

P.S. Well, maybe you could.

i dont think the guy was talking about the 400 cd changer for his car, it was for the house and the topic got changed to stolen car cd changers with cds in them....

As for the original question, you might compare any prices you find to the ones at THIS place. I've ordered from them before.
As for the diverged discussion about large car audio changers, the largest changer unit for car use (I know of) is the Pioneer 50+1 CD Changer with digital audio bus. To help you select songs, you can buy a voice controller unit which will let you access CDs in any pattern you want, or it will even identify each CD by name for you if you don't remember what CDs are in the giant magazine.
It's pretty neat. I like to say "Dancing Queen" and ABBA's Dancing Queen comes right up. Or if I say "spigidygak's greatest hits" it will say "Please Repeat Selection" and you can even select what voice or language you want things said in. It's a smart unit and can keep track of the most frequently listened to songs. So, if you wanted, you could have it eject the least listened to CD so that you could replace it with something else...
Since I load the magazine with many anime import discs, I tried to get the thing listed with the insurance company for theft of items from the auto. While they cover in-dash units and the changer, loose things belonged to my homeowner's insurance, so at the time of loss, I would have to submit the list of CD, proof I owned them (I guess the original empty jewelcases with liner notes is proof), and the receipt for the changer unit (the magazine in it is expensive to replace). None of that would be covered by car insurance.<small>

Can we say a DVD player that plays MP3 Cd's ala the Apex DVD player?
Or hell, spraypaint a mid tower computer black, buy a TV out card and a SBL card that plugs into your receiver and you're set. That'll hold more than 400 CD's worth of music...
