15,982 Knives seized at Airports over Thanksgiving (pic)

Karen Swartz and Bob Allison, both with Reagan National Airport, put away some of the knives, scissors, pepper spray and other items seized last week at the airport, on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, in Arlington, Va. The Transportation Safety Administration hopes to better educate people about what they can take onto airplanes by Christmas, when air travel will be complicated by new gate check procedures and many more checked bags screened for explosives.(AP Photo/Lawrence Jackson)
Why are they carrying open knives in a cardboard box? I feel sorry for the green FBI agent that has to do all the grunt work like carrying boxes....

I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

the stat that shocked me from the weekend air travel was that passengers waited an average of TEN MINUTES at each security checkpoint.

last year, on the monday morning after thanksgiving, i waited for TWO AND A HALF HOURS in dtw

obviously, despite having to confiscate all those knives, they moved people through there damn fast

Well... at least it's nice that they've beefed up security. Last year over christmas, I accidentally brought a sharpened dagger onto the plane with me on my way back to school (I got it for a friend of mine and a sibling put it into the wrong bag). Didn't get stopped or asked anything by anyone. Found out after I got back when I unpacked.
