i just had quiche for the first time...

    and i like it!!

i never even knew what it was made of before, but the building where i work had their annual holiday brunch in the lobby today, so i tried some, and it was goood...

i don't think it was the typical quiche, tho, cuz it wasn't in pie form... but it was quiche nonetheless, and since i'm an egg fiend, i really liked it...

okay, so maybe i didn't need to devote a whole thread to it, but i haven't had much sleep, so cut me some slack...

EDIT: oh, and does anyone (*cough* obby *cough*) have any recipes for quiche?

I never could take a liking to quiche, though, I have not had it for a long while.

Yummy, there are some awesome varieties of quiche. Things I normally wouldn't eat, like spinach, and things I would, like broccoli, are great in quiche. Eggs, veggies, lots of cheese, yummy

I have a really easy "cheater" quiche recipe. I'll dig it up this afternoon while Big B is napping.

    woohoo!! thanks kim!

oh, and personally, the texture and consistency of quiche, from my limited one-time experience, is actually quite different from that of an omelette, and the one i had today didn't have a crust...

plus, i love omelettes too, so that works for me!

Ok, here is the basic recipe. It's super easy, and you can add whatever vegies and meat you want.

    4 eggs
    1 cup buttermilk baking mix
    2 cups milk
    1 cup shredded cheese

Blend eggs, baking mix and milk in blender. Grease 10-inch pie pan or quiche pan (I just use my big oven proof casserole bowl) and spread cheese over bottom. Pour blended mixture over and bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Filling will puff slightly and be golden brown on top.

I like it best with ham and spinach. I always just use whatever I have around, and it's never turned out bad. Enjoy!

    here's an even quicker recipe..
buy one of those pillsbury pre-made pie crusts.
crack and beat about a dozen or so large eggs -
chop up some ham to bite size bits-and dump in a bag of
your favorite shredded cheese, add some broccoli florets for color
if you like. Bake till brown. Better the second day.

but if you want to get technical-I make quiche using a lard based dough, fried bits of canadian bacon, grated gruyere cheese,eggs,milk,onion..which has a nice flavor-and I put all the non-egg stuff in the pie crust first-THEN add the eggs..for some reason-it rises up nice and high.
Quiche is what you make it-it's all good.
