    GBA: An Afterburner alternative

    http://www3.goldenshop.com.hk/AI-trad/gba/tinylight.htm

    Saw this at babbages.com also.

From what I can tell it requires no soldering whatsoever. The only thing you do is pop out the screen from the GBA. Then attatch the light screen over where the plastic screen used to be and you're done. The light screen is attatched to a plastic part that draws power from port on top like all the other GBA peripherals.

It's not an official Nintendo product and I think it's made by Innovation, the same ppl who did the TV thing.

I might buy another GBA and this. It's the same price and way easier to install. I hope it's just as good.

Now thats my kind of product. So easy any moron can handle it. I think I'll give that a try before I get the afterburner kit.

Anyone knows when it comes out and for how much?

Yeah, I suck at soldering, so this is great. Granted, I have no idea on how to take out the screen, but *shrug* whatever

According to Babbages it's $40 and it'll be "released" 12/16/2002 so it shouldn't be too far off. I read the comments. Yes obviously you won't be able to use your e-reader

Some say it's not as good as the Afterburner light-wise buy a very good alternative to the crappy worm lights. Other comments are just about how it pokes out and uses the link port to draw power from versus the Afterburner which is internal. Duh!!! How else do these ppl think it'll work without the pain of soldering themselves?

Hmmm...about a 1/4 an inch all around the screen is sticky and is attatched to the plastic case. It's not permanently glued to the casing. It's like a real strong post-it note type glue. It's easier if you open the case *gasp* and pop it out. Or just get a thin screwdriver, wedge it in without scraping the internal screen and pry it out.

Even though its not concealed like the Afterburner, it still looks like a good buy for those who panic at the thought of tearing apart their GBA. Frankly, you have a product that will back lit your screen with out having to do all the work. So far Im sold. i just want to see some pictures of it in action. Since it comes out this month, I'm sure folsk will have reviews up shortly.

I'm sending out e-mails to some gaming sites to make sure they know about this product. Hopefully this will spark some good reviews that I will have posted on the game page.

my afterburner works great...it's so beautiful :

but some of my friends are looking toward an alternative cuz of all the work that needs to go into installing it (and paying to have it installed can get a bit pricey). if they end up getting this, i'll try to post up some comparison pics.

afterburner has got to be the easiest console mod i've ever seen!
its only two wires, and the contact points don't look too small.
Now the xbox was a pain in the @$$ in comparison!
