    Getting Started with DAOC?

I want to start and try DOAC but I don't want to spend $20 right now and find out I can't stand it. Is there a demo or something I can get?

Man, I've been tempted to get into this game, but these online MUD type games are way too addictive and I don't have enough time to put into it. Plus, you have to deal with kids who play it for 18 hours a day and have maxed out characters.

So, Blitz or LPMiller... What's the best class to solo with? If I do start playing, I will not have time to make friends and join up in groups. What's a good class that I can be a loner with? Also, it has to be a class in which I would be of some use in RvR battles.

So far it doesn't look like there's a demo out. (Or at least any I kind find anywhere.)

Bonedancer by far is the best at solo, but very weak in RvR. Still, if you aren't going to make any friends, I don't suggest you do RvR, because unless you're in a group, you are going to eat a lot of dirt.

But it depends on your class and play style. No class really sucks at solo, some are just better than others at it. The fact that others are higher level really doesn't affect your play like it did in say, Everquest. It's also fairly easy to find a group once you get past the noob levels.

Frankly,it's pointless to play one of these games with the intent to play by yourself.

no, no demo, though the first month is considered a trial month, usually free and you can cancel at any time.

Games that do well like EQ and DA0C usually don't do the demo thing.

    RvR = Realm versus Realm

The world of DAoC is divided into three countries (or realms). You can only PK people of other realms. Also sometimes there are big battles between the realms to get these magical items that booth you entire realm's strength, defense, etc.

Have you played any of the other MMORPGs? Like Everquest, Asheron, Earth and Beyond, etc.? How do they compare?

I've played and beta'd UO, Everquest and Anarchy Online, and currently play DAoC. UO is old. Everquest isn't pretty like it used to be, and is filled with....oh, punks. The whole point of the game is just to earn stuff. Anarchy Online is a great idea that a year later is still too buggy to play. DAoC takes the better ideas from Everquest, but gets rid of many of the more irritating parts to it. It's not as deep land wise, because it is split into 3 realms, though they just launched a huge co-op server that does away with RVR and makes all the realms one. RVR is a total blast, PvE is interesting enough, and over all it has a nicer balance, I think.

EVERYONE TO YOUR KNEES! LORD BLITZ HAS ENTERED

**strides in like strider in lotr two towers**

Now I hear you speak of Dark Age of Camelot

Anywho, best class to solo with is mostlikely..
    Bonddancer-midgard
    Necro-Albion
    Enchanter or other summoner-Hib

LP! Bones are GREAT!!! for rvr! I reached 20 yesterday and have been doing the bg's. I respecd to darkness, and I am currently the only darkness speced in the first bg right now. I work every person I see, snare dd and pets just plain rule..they cant run, and they cant hide (if pets are targeted on stealther, even if he stealthes the pets will still follow )

Anywho, the game is great, it may take you a while to get used to everything if you havn't played an MMORPG before, but it is definately worth getting..specially SI!

Leon and Gear, join the server LP and I are on, Ill help you guys out. My name on there is Soulfury, and im in the guild Aegis Eternal. Im on the server Percival, the roleplaying one....currently 20 bonedancer in battle grounds right now.

I suggest if you start a bonedancer to lvl up to 5 like normal, then head to mainland...its lot esier to lvl there than on expansion. Spec in supp as it is the easiest way to lvl, but make sure you keep buyn a good staff to melee with. I respecd at 20 to darkness, as it is the best in rvr. Army is in the middle of all of those, duel dots are great, plus an aoe dot...but just give me a tell and i will help you guys out. My friend is now 35 bd sup need to catch up

Hey Blitz.. What do you think of Paladins? I am usually a Paladin on RPGs and kinda partial to them.

Paladins are in albion, which would make you the enemy. We are in Mid.

Paladins are ok at lower levels, but you will die, often, at higher levels. If you want to play a tank/melee class, that's midgards strongest suit. Hibby is the best for casters, and albion has the most variety - but also the most people.

If you want to play a pally, do it on the Guinivere server, as albion is quite strong there - plus I have a guy there that could give you some gold and stuff. If you play percy, do midguard.

Like I said on game before, thanes and zerkers are really fun...Thane is a mix of aoe spells and a tank, and zerkers are like suicide tanks. On Iseult, I could rush in and take out 3-4 guys before dieing....while getting hit by 4-5 people at same time.

Just made a Savage, they hit pretty fast...could try one of those, but I advise Bonedacer still

Leon depends on what kind of playing style you enjoy. If you enjoy partying with others pallys make good partymates. If you want to be an offensive hybrid meleer I'd suggest being a Reaver. Also you need to think about what is the goal of this character. Is it to PL others? Is it to dominate in RvR? Is it just going to be a PvE kind of thing? It's pretty much up to you. If you like I'd be more than happy to show you around Albion.

Plus you need to decide on which realm to play in Midgard,Hibernia,Albion...

Personally, I started out with a pally, I thought it was fun. Especially when you're level grinding (party friendly). But out in RvR you're more of an easy target. Since pallys are defensive tank hybrids they are better suited for defending rather than charging in and killing. A pally's job is for rezzing and defending the characters that lay the heavy attacks down (i.e. casters).

I forgot to add I play on the Morgan Le Fay server in Albion, so if you desire to play in albion let me know, I'll show you around.

But LP is right about the "way" it should be, but I'd have to say that Mythic has screwed it up a bit when it comes to the classes and what they should be.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I have started to play around on the Percival server that Blitz is on. I have also discovered how little time I have to actually play a game nowadays. I just got my kobold character to level 5 and am now a Bonedancer. It's cool having some undead guy attack enemies for you. Anyhow, my character is "Leonbone" so look me up!

I only play when I can find whatever free time is available. Lately it hasn't been much. I usually play for an hour at a time or less. I just got to level 6 finally. So I can't give you a definite time frame of when I'm on.

If anyone wants to play a Hib, look me up on the Merlin server. I can hook you up. Any member of Tempest in Hib/Merlin can direct you to Madgrimm, or one of my alts. I have the crafters to get you decked out when you start. I have a some platnum laying about, so I can toss you a few gold to (two 50's will do that). If you want to start a Hib character, I would reccomend a Valewalker, but expect a nerf bat soon...
