Hello everyone! I'm back after two weeks of college searching Everyone miss me? I am now the definitive expert on D.C. and P.A. colleges ;p Nah, not really... I liked Drexel a lot, and Penn too. Catholic U in D.C. was at the bottom of the list of ones I looked at though. In addition to those three, I checked out GW, Georgetown, UPitt, CMU, and I think that's it. Oh well, so now I'm back, and ecstatic to once again be online. I miss you people.

Anyway, before I'm thrashed and caned for an off-topic message, someone DID ask me for a reminder for the $1.99 deal on Romeo Must Die. Apparently, they've wisened up to the fact that posting a deal available at a specific time will make their servers implode, so now the deal is (as already posted on the main deal page) click here, register, do some other gobbledegook, and they'll pick some random people on August 1st at noon Eastern time. The same deal's available for Erin Brockovich, just click here and they'll pick names on the 15th.

    Yay, welcome back to me.

Thanks Ben; just signed up for RMD. But the "Erin Brockovich" sign up isn't working properly.

I'm @ CMU, and u should come here, cause we're the most wired college

seriously dude, our network rocks. we may not have a somewhat dead city, but who cares about that when you can sit on your computer all day with an awesome connection

and all that talk about mit being the best college for computers and what not, that's junk. Their on our servers... AFS baby!

feel free to e-mail me if you got any questions about cmu.

Hah! CMU...if you want the most bandwidth per student, check out the Claremont Colleges. I think in the next two years, they'll be doubling to quadrupling the availible bandwidth, from silly to absolutely ridiculous. The eastern schools have nothing on us computing wise, our networks move faster than a speeding bullet, and it's always sunny. Take that, pittsburgh.

BTW, thanks for the reminder on the movies.

I think CMU still has the edge. Not only do they have their own stuff, the whole area is extra heavily wired....think just on the other side of town, they have the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (rivaled I think, only by Cornell's).

BTW, I did hate the school, it was one of the worst decisions I ever made. But I will admit, when it comes to computers, they are arguably the best in the nation. Been there, seen it.

Whee, I just rechecked my message and there are lots of replies I looked at some west coast schools (well, their websites and viewbooks), but it would be the pain in the arse for a middle-class boy from Rhode Island to come home when he wanted if I was all the way out there. The Claremont colleges looked really cool though, I loved Harvey Mudd's mailings because they made me laugh and Pomona looked great too.

I don't know what to think about CMU - it looked pretty nice, and I've been told by countless people that it is the place for people interested in computers, but I didn't really get a good vibe from the campus. I mean, on the tour they hardly talked about computers at all, and it's not like I'd ever get in anyway - my 700 on the verbal part of the SATs is in their "sweet spot" average, but the 670 on the math is about 70 points below where I need to be. Oh well. I really liked Drexel because of the co-op program, which to the uninformed means you work and go to college - and in the IT field, co-op salaries are about 13,000 per 6 months, so that would net me about 40 grand of fun money throughout my 5 year career. Anyway. Off I go.

Oh, yeah... this is rather off-topic, I should add something to make it on topic.

Uh... check out that JCPenney deal I just posted... wow.

While your campus network admins may be doubling network bandwidth, your parents are doubling the number of kids like you who are going to copy every possible MP3/Useless Wares plus run multiple copies of Echo player to get a bunch of amazon gift certificates. So if you are hoping for faster internet access on campus where ratio of computer science to communications major is more than 1:100, forget about it.
