The Two Towers was awesom. I can't wait for the third. Now I have to get through the books. Half way through fellowship. Just started a few days ago. Reading rules

    Thumbs up

Just got back and loved it!

    Better than Fellowship.

    Funnier.

    Better action sequences.

    More epic.

    More Liv Tyler

    3 hours of goodness.

ps: seems like they got a little more liberal in making changes from the book, but it was done in a good way IMO.

oh yeah, forgot to mention the previews.

Dumb and Dumberer = LOL! *no spoiler* it's one of the most creative funny commercials ever.

X-men II = looks like they can't do it wrong.

T2 = *SPOILER* ok so im gonna watch it no matter... but Arnold looks older and his catch phrase is "She'll be back." How lame is that?
I was wishing it was just gonna be an epic war of man vs. machine and arnold wouldnt have to say much. An army of CG terminators vs conner and the boys.....

Two towers rocked. I liked it way better than the first one. But I also had to sit front row at te first one so that might be a part of it. As far as previews, I agree with t3...Arnold looks way old and the "she'll be back" was cheesy. Dumber and Dumberer...that is gonna rock.

    Was very good!

Saw the 8:00 show with the kids -- mikey made it through the first 1.5 hrs Then my arm fell asleep. Audrey wants to read the books (and forgo the Potter series) even more now.

    Awsome ents, awsome.

I love the way they leave you at the end of the movies. You just want to say get on with it and give me MORE!

actually, i think he was talking about the fact that you referred to the movie as T2...

as for two towers, i just watched it, and i actually enjoyed it more than the first one...

i mean, i never read the books, so when i watched the first one, i was really into it; great adventure stories are hard to come by, you know? but this one, i think, had a better flow to it, despite its semi-akward voiceovers and flashback-ish scenes...

oh, and the battles in this one are just incredible! thoroughly enjoyed myself, despite the morons in the audience (i hate watching movies with full theaters)...

    BOOOOO!!!!! BOOOO!!!!

This has to be the worst/most disappointing movie I've seen in a while. It comes very close to making me not want to finish watching the trilogy.

If you are only interested in special effects, action scenes, and Liv Tyler, by all means, go watch this movie.

If you actually care about the story, plot, verisimilitude, or an accurate interpretation of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, you might not want to waste your money. I'm sorry I wasted mine.

Peter Jackson... *cough* sellout *cough* *cough*

Wow you are the 1st person I've heard from who hasn't really liked the movie. I agree some of the plot changes and the things done to the movie was different from the book. I also realized that with the time constraints and trying to keep people interested and awake for 3 hours, the director had to do something.

I havent read to series for a few years, but I remember The Two Towers as being the slowest and least entertaining of the 3 to read.

Book one had a lot plots going and character introductions.
Book two had a lot of walking and those weird moments between the hobbits. Treebeard, in the book, took like years (exagerated) to make a decision. Impossible to stay really close to the book and keep peoples attention.

At first I didn't like the added love story etc, but now I like the directors intepretation of the LOTR. Many of the visuals were better than I'd imagined. I say enjoy the changes. We all know how it ends.

    To each his own.

Well, the thing is, if the director was really worried about keeping the audience's attention for three hours, then he probably shouldn't have added about an hours worth of garbage that wasn't in the original book. Most people I know who have read the trilogy consider the second book to be the fastest paced and most action packed of the three.

Though I can't really speak for Peter Jackson's thoughts, I think there are reasons he butchered the story. One, the Two Towers would make the best, self-contained, 3 hour movie, but by making the second movie that way, he would have to shorten the 3rd movie to the point of being no longer than your average Hollywood flick (1.5 to 2 hours). His solution was to take several key elements from the second book and save them for the third movie. In order to compensate for that, he made up a bunch of crap and inserted it into the second movie. That way he could carry over the symmetry of three, 3 hour movies.

Two, because of the misrepresentation of Arwen's character in the first movie, he found himself having to justify it in the second movie. Even though Arwen is a background character at best, he felt the need to give her an increasingly more prominent role in the triolgy. I wouldn't be surprised to see Liv Tyler throwing the Ring into the fires of Mount Doom by the end of the third movie. And I'm sure that all of this is due in no small part to Liv Tyler's being a buxom young lass.

Three, he must have felt that the audience was stupid. By retelling the story in a cinematic format, he should have easily been able to relay some of the underlying themes, but instead, he took some of the most popular interpretations of the trilogy and tried to shove them down the audience's collective throat. It is one thing to use symbols and dialogue to hint at or point towards certain themes; it is entirely something else to come out and state an overarching theme outright. What ever happened to allowing the audience to interpret meanings for themselves.

Fourth, he must have changed a lot of elements of this movie aver the reviews for the first movie came out. Yes, he answered a lot of peoples requests for more comic relief, but he sacrificed the characters to do so. Gimli and Golem are now nothing but jokes, and their roles in the movie seem to revolve entirely around how many quips and one-liners they can come up with. Golem's soliliquies with the camera are fine in moderation, but when taken to the extreme, they make it seem as though Jar Jar and a few characters from Monsters Inc. got high on crack and were magically transported into Tolkien's universe. And while Jar Jar and Pixar's funny furballs were designed with 12 year olds in mind, Tolkien's stories were not.

Lastly, I think Peter Jackson simply fell into a trap Hollywood and a lot of brainless movie goers had laid out for him. "Don't worry about the story. Don't worry about a plot. If you have lots of action and great special effects, your movie will be successful."

You're right... to each his own. Oh well, I've wasted enough time on that dog of a movie.

No, no, no... I'm mad because he added so many Liv scenes but didn't show enough of her!

Just saw it w/ the preview of Bad boys 2... Looks interesting to say the least.

Here's a question cuz it seems the general consensus is that it was a good movie.

Would any of you see it again? In the theatres?

Just got back from the movie. Used the ticket from the DVD. I liked the movie but not as much as the first one. I just didn't think the treepeople (Ents) translated well to film. Kind of like the Ewoks. The action was, of course, great. But, and this may sound odd, there might have been too much action. It kind of overwhelmed the actual story. Still I liked it a lot.And I do think I'll see it again as there was so much going on I'm sure I missed something.

Just went to see it again and got a new alternate ending.

For 2 1/2 hours everything is fine and than Frodo climbs on top of the castle wall to talk to that Nazgul Rider and bamn! Fire reigns down and the Saurons eye finds us sitting there bewildered. Apparently the Film burned up and left a funny eye of Sauron shaped image across the whole screen. "Oh no he's found us" someone shouted.

People who hadn't seen the movie weren't sure what was going on. Those of us who had, complained and made some noise. They said it was gonna be 10 - 15 minutes to fix it. Didn't work so than they said another half an hour. Offered the usual replacement tickets. It's now midnight and some people decided to stay. For us it was time to go.

This film was awesome and well-paced ... I certainly didn't feel like I'd spent 3 hours on my behind (unlike Fellowship, which lagged at some points).

    A few thoughts:

    - The fighting scenes could have been shown from a wider perspective ... the closeups made it hard for me to follow who was getting killed and who was doing the killing.

    - This installment helped me gain respect for every member of the fellowship, whereas the first one mainly focused on Aragorn. They each bring their strengths to the table and give it their all.

    - My favorite scene was the last one, when cool stuff happens (don't wanna ruin it for the folks who haven't seen it yet) while Sam is giving the cheesy pep talk.

As much as I enjoyed the film what really eats me up is the stuff shown in the trailer that didnt make it to print. I would say about 1/3 of the stuff in the trailer wasn;t in the film. I was really looking forward to Gandalf's speach to Aragon about being king. Oh well I'll just have to wait for the extended dvd which is rummored to have an hour worth of extra scenes.
I'm not drunk but I play one on TV.
