how big, in physical size, are the G|A forums

This board has nearly half a million posts. all the way back to the very first post, so I has, how big in disk size are the forums? I am guessing in the 15-20 gig range. Also, how long do you plan on keeping the old posts? I think its kind of neat, but its gotta be huge.

you can fit a lot of text in 1mb

Am I the only one who sees.

Maybe we can learn to be just like him.

There are about half a million posts on these boards. lets say each post averages 2k (note I said averages)

    http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showth...threadid=54931

that post from subject to sig is about 1.5k. mix in the really long posts the really short posts i say 2k is a fair estimate. Dont forget formatting is extra and one smiley isn't one character.

    2k * 500,000 (half million posts) * 1meg/1000k * 1gig/1000megs
    =
    1gig.

Guess I had an extra zero in my original calculation. However, its still alot more than 200 megs.

Yes you can fit alot of text into one meg, but remember this isn't all stored in forums.txt, it it were this site would crawl.

And even further what about PMs and personal info as well as date/time for every post. You would be surprised by how that stuff adds up.

Wouldn't the physical size be the size (dimensions) of the hard drive?

That's what I was thinking but I couldn't figure out how to say it nicely
As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals.

Depends on the size of the monitor and the screen resolution...

It is not enough to merely touch the face of god; you also must open your eyes so that you may see your palm.
