I didn't see this deal anywhere in this forum so I'll just post it (I saw this at another site). This is the second deal I've ever posted so I don't know how good a deal it is but...

The Samsung DVD players have a code for Columbia House, You need to call it in (Can't do this one online), but the people on the phone never ask if you actually BOUGHT the DVD player. The code is "HMA". The number you need to call is 1-800-286-6919

    The deal is:
    3 DVDs for $1.00 each
    1 DVD free
    1 DVD for $14.95
and no shipping costs on any of those.

You then have to buy two more DVD's in the next two years at 19.95 a piece.

Go to their website to see the list of movies. The catalogs they send you when the DVD's are shipped are supposed to have a nice big selection (the site is kinda scarce).

So, this is the basic Columbia House deal. Except now it is for DVDs.

Hey, just came out of lurking to let you know that there's an even better deal going on right now at Columbia House.

You can use promotional code FVT to get 6 DVDs for an average of $8.22 each. You can even use this code online at their site (no need to call their reps).

    The deal is:
    Intro Package:
    3 DVDs for $1.00 (+ $1.69 shipping each)
    4th DVD for $6.95 (+ $1.69 shipping)
    5th DVD for $6.95 (+ $1.69 shipping)

    Fulfillment Obligation
Buy one more in the next year at $19.99 or more (+3.99 shipping)

So your best bet is to get really expensive DVDs as your enrollment selections Some examples:
Armageddon: Criterion Edition - $49.99 MSRP
    Clerks : SE - $39.99 MSRP
    Scream: SE - $39.99 MSRP

There are a ton more with MSRPs of over $30. Just make a list of what you really want, then go to Amazon or somewhere, and find out what the most expensive ones are on your list.

Also, you can have two accounts active per household.

When you fufill your membership, call customer service and cancel your membership, and join again in 2 or 3 days.

I've done this deal (or other similar Columbia House ones) 7 times so far, to get about 45 DVDs for $400.

[Edited to correct some numbers from my original post]

Ok, I took the bait and just did some major research for the best deal on this..

I signed up at www.colombiahouse.com for the dvd club and then went through all the dvds with a search for completed auctions on Ebay and compared each DVD's average resale price. I then ordered: Scarface ($22 on Ebay), The Stand ($22 on Ebay), Clerks (SE for about $20.25 on Ebay), Life is Beautiful ($20.25) and Dragonheart ($20 on Ebay). Total Ebayable value: $104.50!! It cost me $25.35 in total for the first five which will arrive in 2-3 weeks, leaving me one more to buy at about $24... of course if I sell these 5 on Ebay I'll make ($104.50 - $35.35) $79.15 anyway. I figure if I have my wife do this as well we can score close to $160 in free money and then get down to business on DVDs!!

Just FYI some other good movies to get (besides the 5 I did) are: Armageddon, Blues Brothers, Good Will Hunting, Pink Floyd - The Wall, Dante's Peak, 10 Commandments, Tombstone. All of these have resale values over $18 each, with another 10 or so over $17 (per Ebay completed auctions). Go FOR IT!

I also just talked to Customer Service and they say it will take about a week to get a club ID# so I can order my last one on-line and cancel. Thats ok. Now I just have to find the cheapest 19.99 DVD and sign up AGAIN!! Thanks for the tip!

So the FVT coupon (was that what it was?) is still more expensive than the one I posted...And this is not the regular Columbia House deal. Their usual DVD deal really sucks and they rape you for the price.

With this FVT code, the commitment varies depending on the number of DVD's you take at the start.

If you only take the 3 for $1 each, then you're obliged to buy THREE at full price. Take the 4th at $6.95, and you need to by two at full price. If you initially get 5, *then* you only have to buy 1 at full price. A bit f*cked up, methinks, but whatever floats their boat.

So, it makes sense in more ways than one to grab all 5 straight off.

Thanks for the hook-up. I used the FVT code to get my five DVD's, including a cool Aeon Flux compilation, Starship Troopers, and the Shining. Cause if your going to get DVD's, they may as well be ones that will look cool because of the DVD.

    I don't think so -- yours is $65.83 for 7 DVDs (($1x3)+$0+$14.95+($19.95x2)+($3.99x2)) which equals $9.40 per.

The FVT deal is $49.29 for 6 DVDs (($1x3)+($6.95x2)+($1.69x5)+($19.95+$3.99)) which equals $8.22 per.

    Unhappy

I was going to do this but I noticed that their site is not secure for credit cards.
Maybe I will do it via the an old bank check...

    Sandman,

I too thought they didn't have a secure website. But when you do a checkout, there is on top of the page towards the right hand side that says "Try our secure page" or something to that effect.

Your selection isnt limited to the 17 pages..Those are just the most popular... If ya look to the side there is a search and there is a tab which let you view by type.

Chunky- click the browse by genre. I think it's under the action/adventure and the sci-fi. Or just do a search.

Would someone be kind enough to list the DVDs that Columbia carries? Thanks!

As far as making a list of available titles, Leon is right, there are way too many to list.

As a general rule, you can get just about any title from them as an enrollment selection with these exceptions:

    - Any DVD released by Disney/Buena Vista (Except Armageddon)
    - Any DVD released by Fox Studios (Except Porky's)
    - Any Multi DVD set
    - Any DVD that has been newly released within the last 90 days

if you are looking for cheapo movies, they have a few $15 dvds i saw on their bargain page.

had just cause and nothing but trouble, i know for sure. too bad i already have both. i know theyre crappy, but for around $3 each i couldnt say no.

also, if you are waiting a while to buy your 6th movie with the FVT code, call the 800# and talk to a rep about becoming a "preferred member," that being they wont mail you any crap.

    Cool

And, if you don't already know... you can have up to 2 ACTIVE accounts per household. But, as soon as you cancel you can sign up again.

The main info is from DVDTalk's Bargain forum. Yeah I linked it. I think the members there deserve a lot of the credit for the info and should be recognized.

P.S. - Thanks for bringing the info to everyone in this forum, it's been long overdue!

Cheers! Yet another great deal - both my girlfriend and I will take advantage of it today (god knows what ****e she's gonna buy, though) .

Olomite: https:// denotes a secure connection. I don't know why your browser isn't showing a lock for that, but it should. If it doesn't support secure connections is should choke on the 'https' tag.

Oh, btw, when you enter that code and you get dumped to the list of titles that you're *supposed* to choose from, there's a bit at the bottom:

"* This selection is not available as an enrollment selection."

Now, searching by name, a lot of stuff is coming up with asterisks next to 'em. Both versions of Armageddon have it, Trainspotting does, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels does.

I'm gonna try it anyways and see what happens. If they tell me I can't have my selections, then I'll tell 'em where they can stick it.
