    Interesting theory...

My GF and I were recently discussing the theory that Asian males tend to be far more secure with their masculinity than men of other ethnic groups. So far, in my experiences, I've seen this to be true. And I personally think it has something to do with a lack of "machismo", if you will.

    What do you guys think?

i dunno about that... I'm asian..and now i'm questioning my masculinity... it could have been my situation, but it seems i have at best a tenuous hold on women...nurture vs nature still seems to be strong here imho...but then i'm usually wrong

Hmm doesn't sound very credible. First of all, how big is your focus group? Are you measuring by just the people that you know, and if so are those people predominantly of one ethnic group? How about the people that you are using to measure the other ethnic groups against? How many are there? How much of the information that you are using to weigh this theory is based on information you have seen in the media? Remember the media wants to show you whatever sells.

Just a few things to consider...

Oh, this isn't a formal study in any way. It is more of just a discussion based on personal experiences and observations. That's why I was asking for opinions and observations from you guys.

An asian child raised adopted by italian parents from brooklyn would act like a brooklyn italian not a san fransisco asian. Its the way you were raised.

Exactly... so think of it in cultural terms.

What do you mean secure masculinity? If you mean no need to show off how much of a man he is then I would say this is kinda true. But I find a lot of the punks they are cropping up around here don't appreciate the blood and sweat and tears their parents went through to provide the life they take for granted. Which in turn propogates their need to show off and hence leaving them with a gun shot in the chest, knife in the back or wrapped around a tree.

I know that in China itself, the males are not as afraid to get closer to another male. I think the reason why that is, is because the stigma of being gay has not permiated as completely the culture there like it has over here.

I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

I think it exists and is called bushido. If warrior spirit isn't machismo then what is?

Most of the guys I know who express strong machismo are the ones that are just trying to compensate for getting their asses kicked on a regular basis.
