just came out in HK in december and i hear its coming to the US soon ... lots of big name HK actors including Zhang Zi Yi from Crouching tiger .... i just bought the offical VCD on ebay ... i cant wait for this thing to come out in Theatres ... Sorry to get picky, but calling Hero a "Jet Li Movie" is doing it SO little justice. Looking at the cast and crew, I have a feeling Jet Li will be the last one actually contributing to the quality of the movie.

I think Jet Li is a good actor, I mean he was the most convincing evil person i have ever seen in a movie (lethal weapon 4). but i think i'll have to see this for Zhang Zi Yi. Damn she's hot!

Being that he is a foreigner, its not a stretch.
I also thought that movie sucked and I was disappointed with how they killed him too. He is getting better though(at American movies) and may end up becoming the Bruce Lee of this generation before long.
I like those movies with him and the kid that plays his son and does the same martial arts moves. Mini Jet Li.
Christopher Walken now thats a good bad guy IMO.

Zhang Yi Mou worked with Zhang Ziyi in "Wo de fu qin mu qin " (My Father and Mother, aka. The Road Home), "Yi ge dou bu neng shao" (aka Not one less..which I haven't seen, but have ordered on DVD), and bette well known for "Raise the Red Lantern".
It's amazing Tony Leong and Maggie Cheung are working together again (they were great in Wong Kar Wai's "In the mood for love")

I just got back from a two week trip in Singapore and I found some time to watch this movie.
This is by far one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Great acting from all characters. One of the best things about it is that there wasn't one central character, each character was given equal emphasis.
It's a definitely must-watch. The fight scene between Jet Li and Donnie Yen is amazing. A++++++
Oh, and I can't wait for the DVD.

had to dig this thread up, cuz i just finished watching it on DVD.
apparently my roommate's sister somehow got hold of a copy of it, and i think it's the actual DVD straight from overseas.
anyway, i have to say, i don't know where they filmed some of these scenes, but if they do, in fact, exist and aren't simply computer enhanced landscapes, I MUST VISIT THESE PLACES! they are simply gorgeous!
as far as the film itself, it is nothing like i expected it to be. i'm guessing from the previous posts that Zhang Yi Mou is the director...? i'm not sure how much he was involved in the actual cinematography, but it was shot beautifully. very nice.
the acting was good, and i get the impression the fight scenes were choreographed more with artistry in mind, not mind-blowing martial arts, which was interesting to watch. it's got sort of a Rashomon feel to it, with elements of the same story told from different points of view (i don't want to give away too much, but i think the way they pulled this off was also very nicely done).
i wasn't a big fan of Crouching Tiger, but watching this film made me want to go back and watch it (Crouching Tiger) again to appreciate some of the other elements of the film.
i think i'll definitely watch this in the theaters, at least to see the scenery on the big screen.
btw, anybody know what the story is on the US release of this movie?

BTW I saw this movie on either VCD or DVD (from HK) and I think it's okay. Donnie Yen is my second favorite behind Jet Li as far as martial artists/actors are concerned.

That's another one. "The New Shaolin" is the old style movie with Jet Li playing Hong Hy Kwan. The other movie is with Jet Li playing an undercover cop from China. Anita Mui (Heroic Trio, Rumble in the Bronx, and etc) is also starred in that movie.Originally posted by Freelance Superhero
