Does anyone use it? I've searched around, wasn't able to determine whether or not it contained any spyware. Was hoping to get some tv eps from there, that Kazaa seems to lack. Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated![]()

eDonkey.. is that like .avi's of donkey shows?!?!?!
I used to use it a while ago. It is a lot slower than kazaa and has a smaller number of participants but it does work just fine. The trickey part is finding a good server to log on to. When I switched to cable I had the darndest time getting on that's the only reason I don't use it now. As for getting TV shows...it is pretty good for that. As for the spyware...it DOES contain some. They use the same stuff as kazaa (cydoor) and good old adaware will zap it just fine.
Go ahead and use it just make sure to clean your system.

Does Kazaa Lite really not have spyware??? Is it always better to use kazaa lite than kazaa?
cricket_rules (sc.bnet)
use kazaa lite. same program with the spyware edited out.

I shyed away from it before, didn't know anyone who used it. But I've been seeing people on Kazaa sharing some episodes that contained the word "ShareReactor". So decided to try and find what service or irc channel that was. There was a site, and displayed what they had. But in order to click the links to download, I had to have eDonkey.
Hmm, now to find a spyware-free version. Anyone know if one exists? After you remove it with ad-aware, does it still work? There were some software that ceased to work properly if it was removed.
yeah, ShareReactor puts out a lot of high quality stuff.
every single time ive tried to use edonkey, i cant get on a server. dont know why. they are supposed to have a lot of stuff from the digital archive project
so this talk about edonkey got me thinking about it again. i tried it again but it still wouldnt let me get onto any servers. but then i noticed a little note that said "If you have trouble connecting try the exciting new serverless network."
well i tried that out and it gave me a version of edonkey called overnet. and damn does it work good. there is a lot of stuff in there, stuff i didnt even think existed (lots of stuff from sharereactor in there for you nuts). instead of using keywords or filenames for searches, edonkey creates a hash for each file and searches those. therefore you wont have to worry about lames renaming files. also hashing allows a standard search format so you can actually link to files on edonkey whether someone is hosting them or not. this will add the file to your queue.
now the bad news, overnet is a resource hog. too many files in your queue at once and you wont be able to do too much else. may be a good idea to run this while you are sleeping or away. also, there is definately some spyware in there. i installed this knowing this info, but im planning to do a format and reinstall soon so it doesnt really bother me. during installation you can uncheck one piece of spy/ad ware but if you read the EULA it says some stuff about other spyware such as ezula. after running adaware, i found nothing but a cookie for some ad tracking site (didnt run before installing, sorry), so i dont know for sure if anything was installed.
final verdict:
not sure yet, gotta check the spyware, but the processor usage is definately a downside.
hehe sounds cool to me.. if it allows me to leech, i'm there!spyware.. well, i can just use an old pc to download, so i wouldn't care about the spyware, which would also relieve the pains of resource hog.. but kazaa is no different in that department.. i had about 1500 things queued before, and couldn't do a thing... i moved half of the queues out, and am able to do other stuff while queuing about 750 files or so.
I think it'll be worth it to grab lots of those episodes that aren't on the other networks.
Thanks for your help!![]()

1500?!!! WHoooa, I have like at most 20, usually.

eMule, eDonkey without the crap. Open source too

not my fault things take too long to finish.. and a few hundred of those, it has a hard time finding the exact same file on the network..Originally posted by Windsor

i was mistaken about the cpu usage, overnet only uses a huge chunk of the cpu while hashing very large files. after that it doesnt use too much cpu. i have about 100 files in my queue and didnt notice any lag, but i didnt do 1500 files like some nut in these forums![]()
i just tried emule, i cant connect to any servers just like with edonkey. i keep getting an error saying "Client 'stupid server that wont work' caused error while creating package (requested file not found) - disconnecting client"
im sticking with overnet for now

thats really strange, tommy.
Emule works the best for me. Overnet would connect fine at first, then slowly lose the network. edonkey was too buggy.

well, im playing with the settings for emule and i cant find anything. i tried shutting down my firewall and killing any tweaks i think are interfering with it. i havent been able to get anything to work, it just keeps trying to connect.
My favorite program is DirectConnect.. if you haven't heard of it, check it out http://www.neo-modus.com/
I tried edonkey2000, it couldn't connect for some reason, I then switched to Overnet but it had trouble finding a decent amount of sources. I've been using emule the past couple days and have had great luck, it's a good program if you don't mind waiting a couple days for the movies to finish downloading (but they still get there usually before they get shared on kazaa, and there's more rare movies).
try one of the server lists from http://www.server-met.de/i just tried emule, i cant connect to any servers just like with edonkey. i keep getting an error saying "Client 'stupid server that wont work' caused error while creating package (requested file not found) - disconnecting client"
Agreed. After you meet a certain sharing requirement (30GB is one of the more common requirements), DirectConnect will become all that you will ever need. Hit up hub networks like the Evil Network and the like in order to search amoung various related hubs. I think I have been able to find just about anything that I have ever wanted with Direct Connect (unless it's something totally obscure, like the last episode of Chico and the Man.)Originally posted by kain9i6

all i know is that the RIAA's site was highly recommending eDonkey a few days ago![]()
I'm also a fan of direct connect. I don't believe that it has any spyware on it.
Does anyone have a server list for direct connect?
