Question why does my sour cream go bad so quickly?

ok, i'm really annoyed. for whatever reason, i keep buying sour cream and it goes bad in like 3 days.

on friday, i bought sour cream. it was dated to be good until Jan. 30. i put it in the fridge as soon as i got home.

on saturday, i took it to a friend's house to use in a nacho plate i was making. it went in the fridge as soon as i got there, was out for maybe 10 minutes while i was making the nachos, and then went back in my fridge as soon as i got home. (and on the trips to and from my friend's, it was below freezing as it's so freaking cold here right now).

my fridge is plenty cold.....it's almost too cold. but i just pulled it out of the fridge, and the lid was all bubbled up, stuff was leaking out around the lid, and it smelled like s***.

why does it go bad so quickly? is this normal?

Sounds like something is definitely not right. I can buy sour cream and keep it in the fridge for weeks (even months) and not have it "go bad". Sure, the liquid may separate somewhat from the rest of the cream, but a quick stir and it's as good as new!

Sounds like it is time to clean your refrigerator with bleach. Use or throw away anything you can't clean with bleach. Pull out all the drawers and shelves and scrub them with a bleach solution. Then after you are done, wipe down every horizontal surface with a bleach solution. That should kill whatever is ruining your sour cream.

Or you have been hit by an evil hex. So you need to see your local witchdoctor or just appologize to either Nija or revil.

You just probably have to much radiation where you live. Just be happy you can still get sour cream.

I think this is an example of the type of assistance he was looking for Also double check the dates on the sour cream when you purchase them. Is everything else in the refrigerator keeping cool?

Bad as in moldy or bad as in, liquidy on top. That's natural (the liquid) cause i also have had one tub in my fridge for about 5 weeks now? Still good.

the date was fine....supposed to last till Jan. 30.

everything else in the refrigerator is fine.....i often have stuff in there for...um....months....and it doens't go bad.

as for why i thought it was bad:
1.) the lid was bubbled up and gunk was leaking down the side of the container, which tells me that some sort of extra-curricular reactions are going on inside there.

    2.) it smelled really bad

assuming this is an ongoing thing...as in you don't just coincidentally buy from a bad batch or something...there's the possibility that your fridge has something like...well yeast or something that spurs growth. perhaps the other items in your fridge are either sealed better or just of different content. maybe you could try transferring it to a tupperware container or something. or maybe the fridge is actually too cold for that particular product.

as for me, i'm still waiting to hear obby's take on it

i know, that's what i was hoping for too.....

the transferring container idea seems good.....i should try that.

and yes, this is a chronic problem. it's happened to the last 4 things of sour cream i've bought (probably over the last 2-3 months).

use a clean spoon whenever you go in there!!
When you get little food particles in there, they have germs, and those germs love to feed on rich, moist dairy products.

This happens to me and my bone head room mates al lthe time. Good food becomes rotten poo
