GRRRR... I hate EBay sometimes <Ranting and Raving>

Ok so here's the deal. I put up an auction for a really nice camera that my father-in-law wants to sell. I put up the specs and the pics, I also put up any info I have on it. Keep in mind that I am NOT a camera guru.

But I really think that I did it justice and didn't overstate it. It's only been used for 3 rolls and so it's basically new. I start the bidding at .01 dollars with a buy it now for $650.

Much to my surprise, overnight someone buys it for $650.

I'm happy cause the reserve was $400. I think I'd seen these go for up to $1000. What does the buyer do next? He asks for some more pics. I oblige and do so. So he then says that he has more questions and isn't certain if the lens is a specific type. Keep in mind I never claimed it to be any sort of lens. I just said that the lens 28-80mm is included and added a pic.

He continues on asking me questions and states that he can't see some parts of the camera well and so I offer to take more pics. Instead he responds with "no it's no good ... I don't want to buy it".

OK my question is why the heck didn't you ask questions before using the buy it now option?!? GRRRRRR.......

So I go back and forth on the emails with this guy trying to please him but by now he's convinced himself that it's some sort of fraud auction.

I have over 170 feedback on my account. And I'm taking that kind of attitude personally. I assure him that it's what it is. Nothing more nothing less.

So what does he email me back with???

"the only way if you want me to buy the camera ship it to me , after i received and see how is , if the camera as described i will pay via pay pal same day."

Ok who in their right mind would ever agree to such nonsense???

So I responded to him in his own rationality. I said ok then I'll bid and win all 30+ camera auctions of yours and I'd appreciate it if you'd send me the items for my inspection and approval. Upon that occurring I'll send you payment. So far no response from him.

GRRRR.... if you have questions all I'm saying is ask first bid last. I just don't get some of these guys

Am I wrong peeps? Responses?

I'm out about $25 bucks in fees and such until I can get them back from ebay which will take 30+ days. Sucks man.

Report him to ebay fraud protection. They will allow you to re-list your camera for free and they will take punative actions against this idiot.

the "buy it now" feature means you plan to "buy it now". not that you are going to begin an interrogation of the seller and ultimately decide you don't want it

i mean, he might have a little argument if he placed a bid, then started to quibble with you (his rationale being that he just wanted to put in a first bid before anyone else, or something....i know it's not a good excuse, but people are dumb).

but that schizzle is just bull.

i agree that's bs. but i don't really have any advice for you. i just sold my first item on ebay, and i'm [sort of] having trouble with it.

the guy who bought the item is in new york. i've shipped with insurance and delivery confirmation. be paid via pay pal the day he won, which was about 2 weeks ago. he still has not picked up the box from the post office though.

i don't want to take the money out of pay pal until he does. i don't know what the deal is???

As soon as you sent out the item you can take the money out of paypal. If he doesn;t pick it up thats his business, not yours. There is no senario of events that can happen once you send out the item that can get you to give the money back so that means its yours. Worst case senario it gets lost in the mail. Then you send him the insurance slip and tell him to file a claim. You still keep the money.

Sorry, Brain, but you just got a dork as a bidder. It happens to anyone who sells on eBay long enough. Just file your claim for a refund of the fees, and move on.

eBay has streamlined the refund process, so it won't take 30+ days. If you file the NPB report 7 days after the auction ended, then file the FVF request 10 days after that, you will receive a credit to your account within 48 hours.

If the auction ended more than 7 days ago (which it probably has, considering the amount of emails you've exchanged), you could have your credit in 12 days, which would be before eBay charges your credit card for the January fees.

Wait exactly 90 days from the end of the auction, and leave negative feedback for him using this link. This will reduce (but not eliminate) the possibility of him leaving a retalitory neg.

Also send him an email telling him you expect him to mail you $2.30 to cover your non-refundable listing fees.

Does anyone know by the way how much this camera is worth? I set the buy it now for what I thought was a reasonable price but seeing that it sold so quickly, maybe I should list it higher

according to this reviewer at photo.net, mint condition F3s go for ~$750, while a used one in decent shape goes for ~$550.

you might search through the classifieds there to see if you can find any similar models to see pricing. you also might consider selling there instead of through ebay....maybe you'd find a slightly less flaky buyer....then again, maybe not.

His most recent one makes absolutely no sense. He said

Backwards search his number to get his adress. Enter him into those win-a-car sweepstakes. Heh, it would be funny if he won but the odds are pretty bad. I can handle Email spam (OSX mail has some pretty nice learning filtering) but Snail Mail spam is pretty bad because sometimes you have to open it. You can get him credit card offers and such.

You should definitely report him to eBay. Fill out this form. A bid on eBay is a contract and he is obligated to purchase that camera from you now. If he doesn't, he is in serious violation of eBay policy.
