Telemarketers' Do not call program

This is available for the first time in Massachusetts starting the first of this year and I guess a list will be generated quarterly and be distributed to telemarketers, The problem I see with this is that you have to sign up for it and give out some personal information, well this may be information that they may not have to begin with. I understand they are bound by law not to call but what do they do with this list afterwards, Sell it to mail order companies? That's all I need is more junk mail. Somehow it looks like this was drawn up to appease both sides.

I have seen those but how well do they work, I haven't heard of anyone giving a thumbs up for those gadgets and that they actually own one and they work.

I got one after my brother recomended it. His call volume dropped over 90% by one month. I have been getting less calls already.

It works by telling the machine that dials your number that the number is disconected when you pick up the phone. So the call is not transfered to a marketer. Then the dialing computer that called you marks your number as disconnected and has you deleted from the list and that deletion is passed on to other dialing computers. THose companies don't want to waste time calling dead numbers.

You could try adding your phone number with a fake address. Here in Minnesota, all they want is your phone number. No other information is required. In fact, someone could easily go through the phone book and enter every number.

The Massachusetts do not call list looks voluntary - the telemarketers can use it if they want to. Here in Minnesota, it's mandatory that every telemarketer buy the list.

You can do the same yourself for free - you really don't need the Telezapper. All it does is play that three note tone that you hear when you dial a number that's been disconnected. If you record that tone at the beginning of your answering machine message, it does the same thing as the Telezapper.

I registered early Fall for the DNC list in PA - they said there should be a huge dropoff of calls around November. Seems to have worked pretty well, as we hardly get anymore calls.

It's a painless form, so I say go for it.

BTW...I have heard also that the Telezapper does work real well too.

The only problem I've heard about the Telezapper is that it might cause your credit card company to think that your phone is disconnected when they call. If it weren't for that, I'd already have one on my phones.
