Laser Printer
I'm looking for a decent and "not so expansive" monotone laser printer for home/student. Any suggestion is appreciated.
TIA

attgig,
How about the driver and the quality of the printer? I could afford a laser printer that is less than $200 and the exterior design is not important to me as long as it doesn't have (many) paper jams. Thanks.

but if you're still interested in getting that...
the design isn't all that good, but it's really fast (17 ppm) and cheap.
I have this printer and i love it....
for the carterage i pricematched Staples www to staples B&m .. i love 110% Pm guarantees...
BTW: the priter is great be warned it shipps with an economey cart. in it 1500 yeild. most printer manufactures skimp on the cart. that ship with printers. like DF said they make their money on the ink.

i use XP...
plug and play - no problems
quality of printer is fine.....and the only thing about the exterior design is that it takes up space with the paper trays out....
and yeah, as for the initial cartridge they send, like GG said...1500 pages...I'm sure that'll get you through at least a year of normal printouts of assignments...

I also have the Minolta 1250W in my lab. This is a great printer. I bought in last summer and my lab (100 students) has used it exclusively all school year for reports, data tables, and graphs and it still has not run out.
Three things that are great about this printer:
1. It has a nifty little flip-up cover that protects it from dust.
2. It prints FAST.
3. It is the cheapest 1200x1200 laser I could find.

Minolta 1250W sounds like a decent and affordable laser printer for me. Thanks for the advice guys.
BTW, I am using HP Deskjet 930C and man, ain't those inks expansive even if I use the "aftermarket ink" and coupon codes off GA.

Check out also the samsung 1250 or 1430, great lasers for under $200.

I read the review on cnet regarding Samsung 1430. One of the disadvantages is "not upgradable". What does it mean by that? What can you upgrade to your laser printer?
-
Only thing desireable to upgrade is the memory and paper tray. . . I'm doubting you'll care about that unless if the printer is for an office or for lots of users. . . which in that case you'd probably want something a little more expensive and actually made for networking for lots of users.

perhaps upgradable to a network printer?
again..same reasoning about not caring about that.

Hey, Staples has Minolta 1250W 17-PPM Laser Printer shipped this weekend after $40 off coupon and $100 rebate. Just thought someone might be interested. (Yeah, I know it's more related to Got Deals).
