    How much Paging File?

How much should a person set their paging file to?

what should the initial size be?
what should the maximum size be?

I'm assuming if you set this the right way it should increase or decrease performance...

    Thanks

i always thought that it should be 1.5x the amount of physical ram that you have. at least thats what MS says and thats what i have it at right now (i dont want any trouble). some people have posted here lately that it doesnt neccesarily need to be that much

but if you only had 128mb it would be 320 page file and that is not too bad. and if you did 1.5x 128 = 192 and tha would be too small

may you shoulf use user discression if you have 2gb of ram you dont need a big page file

unfortunately its not as simple as "ive got lots of ram, i dont need a big page file". it has to do with how data is addressed and that depends on the software you are using. chances are you wouldnt want to configure your pf too small or you might have memory addressing problems. too big would be useless because there is no need for it

Here's a tip for the paging file:

When you first set up your PC, set the paging file min and max to the same value (about 1.5 - 2x RAM). That way, your file size does not fluctuate and the page file does not become fragmented.
