    Question

edit The 24x8x8 is not a real deal since the company said out of stock eventhough the site said in stock. This price includes shipping and tax. I call several times and no go. Or would a Yamaha 24X8X4 for edit $160.00 is a good deal?
The only deal left was the 24x8x4 for $160 shipped included tax and shipping. Maybe not such a good deal.

    Question

$164 is not the final price b/c shipping and tax on top. We are looking at another $15 to $20, which would bring it to $179 or more. So not a good deal.

The 24x8x8 is a GREAT drive, and $149.99 is very very good. It's easily a better drive than the 8x4x32 plextor, though the burnproof 32x10x12 (Plextor, made by Sanyo) still has the edge, IMHO.

Wow, that's the first time I ever saw someone post that there is a better CDRW than Plextor. I have a 2X Yamaha that has given me no problems, but what makes me suspicious about later Yamaha's is that there have been tons of refurb 4X and 6X units at various sites.

Believe it or not, Plextor is only as good as the manufacturer who actually makes their drives. As you probably already know, they don't make their own stuff.

Thats true Apex, There are only 3 or so actual manufactures out there, everyone else just puts it in their own box and renames it.

Well as far as sony being rated as a top drive i'd disagree "mostly cause mine blew"
worst 325 bux i ever spent if i had a chance to buy a yammy at 149 i'd do it cause this one i have here at work ROCKS
On a side note does anyone know of a portable unit higher than 4X "hp makes a 4x"
    thanks

So how about external drives? (All these are USB CD-RWs...

    HP 8210e 6x/4x/4x?
    Iomega ZipCD 6x/4x/4x?
    Sony 6x/4x/4x?

which one is best? and the first 2 are available at Staples, which has a coupon that can be used to get 40 dollars off.

    Thumbs down

I would have post the deal but it could not go through so I don't want to break any heart. Sorry for all the hype guys. I call 5 times and no deal each time. So I don't want to post it and give a run around. Plus the store does not have any rating.
    Sorry about that.

HP is coming out, or has out, a 9000 series of internal and external burners. I believe the 9000 external is an 8X speed...but it costs like 400-500. not worth it. Yet. Wait a year, it'll be half! =)
