Dell Business Purchases - Money Saver

Dell always has coupons and rebates, but the best way to save money on a Dell is:

    1. Check and see what you want to buy on the Business website.
    2. Call Sales and purchase it over the phone while looking at your order online.

Why you ask? Let me show you by sharing how much I saved yesterday when I purchased this laptop through the business section.

Money Saved over the phone: $310.17

    -------------------

Again, this was purchased through the business sales dept. Not the home. Not sure if home will do it. Discounts I received:

-2nd Business Day shipping dropped to $29
-Free Dell TrueMobile 1300 WLAN (802.11b/g,54Mbps) miniPCI Card
-FreeTripp Lite Notebook Surge USB Hub Bundle
-5% off total order with setting up 60 days same as cash
    -$100 off

If you call in to Dell, the sales people can give you many discounts not found on the site. This is a nice laptop. Specs are found here: http://www.dell.com/us/en/bsd/produc..._notebooks.htm Estimated arrival: May 12th

Hope this helps. I thought this would be appropriate in the "Got Deals" section since it will save you money. Good Luck.

Update: Dell must have received a larger order of widescreens than they thought. The laptop shipped today and will be here soon. Today is April 28th.

What exactly was the conversation like? Did you ask them for the freebies, or did they throw them in?

Did you read off the exact config to them and it was cheaper, or did you ask for discounts?

Yeah, exact config. Right down to the Tripp Lite Notebook Surge USB Hub Bundle. Of course, the coupons at the time are different this week. I purchased 2 of the above notebooks. But I am sure even if you are only buing one, you will still be better calling in. Right off the bat they discount your shipping. Good luck.

That's a good option, but there are times where they can't beat the web pricing.

There was one instance where I configured 2 servers on the web with a bunch of various discounts & promotions that happened to hit at the same time, and brought the price from $6200 down to $3800. My sales rep quoted me $5000 for the same setup, and said that any lower than that was below his cost.

So, I just bought it over the web & saved an extra $1200. I think Dell is trying their hardest to hang onto that #1 spot, and as long as it means cheap PCs for everyone, I'm all for it!

On a related note, if anyone is interested in an IBM, Compaq or other major vendor, give them a call & ask them to beat Dell's price for a similarly equipped computer. The other big vendors are so hell bent on catching up that they'll also sell below cost just to take the money away from Dell.

    Gotta love the price wars!
