2.4 ghz cordless phone free after MIR at Office Max

Its only in B&Ms as they have a $40-$30 instant rebate and a $10 MIR. The phone is actually pretty good, i tried yesterday.

Strange, but the phone does not appear in my weekly circular, and when I went to the store, I don't recall there being any free phone deals (but I was not particularly looking for one).

They had this deal a week or two ago...were you looking at an old cicular?

No, its was on a double-sided black and white xerox copy at the front and said valid from 05/04/03 - /05/11/03.

I got the phone for 10 bux and there's a $10 rebate in their rebate book for Curtis TC967.
The phone claims the phone can last 6 days without being charged and overall i dont see why OMax gave this for free. Maybe it was like a surprise thing anyone who went to actual B&M store. There was lots and lost left when I went so if u go look for one u'll probably get it without a problem.

edit:: anyways how do u link OMax stuff cos it keeps timing out.

Hi,

Ok, I was going back to officemax to get the free CD-R's...so when I went there I looked for the photocopy adds.

They indeed had them, but the phone was not one of the featured items - I figured these must be store specific adds.

Anyway, I walked around the phone section, to find one curtis tc967 phone sitting all by itself.

So I figure it can't hurt to ask, and it ends up that the phone was indeed onsale for $10 and free after rebate.

Pretty cool, so I bought the last phone.

It was strange that my store did not advertise it at all...yet I was still able to get the deal.

are you saying that when you went there, the phone wasn't advertised as 30$ instant rebate, but you still got it??

i went to my local store and saw that phone, but they had a sale thing saying 39.99-10MIR=29.99
nothing about 30 instant.

It is a analog phone. You are better off watching for a deal on a digital spread spectrum, even if it cost a few more dollars. I would think there will be plenty of deals now that there is a new higher frequency band for cordless phones.

Yes you are correct.

The phone was just sitting there all by itself - there was not even a price tag or any sort of advertisement at all.

I took it to the register to have it scanned, and it came up as 39.99-29.99 instant rebate = $10

Hi,

I think you are probably correct - although I have yet to try the curtis phone.

This is the 3rd cordless phone that I have gotten more or less for free.

The first two were 900mhz analoge - one was pacific bell and the other was vtech (vtech supposedly has a good reputation).
While both phones have good sound quality, they both suffer from having very low volume settings for both the receiver and the voice-piece. If either the user or the person talking to the user is in a noisy location, they can both be very frustrating to use.
Other than that, they work great.
Interestingly, I once paid $75 for a panasonic cordless phone...and guess what? It had the same problem with the volume. The only cordless phone I ever had that did not have a volume problem was an AT&T ($50), but after many years of use, the buttons broke on it.

The curtis is the first 2.5 ghz phone I am trying, and I am hoping that the volume won't be an issue.

Interesting that of all the things I have gotten for free, the only ones I have been even a bit dissappointed with are the free phones - for everything else I would say that I do indeed get more than what I pay for.

I got this phone a couple weeks ago as well as the model with the built-in answering machine. I can't really recommend either, as they are scratchy-sounding. The answering machine records messages so unclearly that you can't understand them sometimes. Yesterday my phone started squealing with feedback like a bad microphone does. I'm seriously thinking about taking both of them back...

I can confirm Bulletboy's comment on the version with answering machine (TC995 I believe). The answering machine playback sound quality is very poor. Just hooked mine up the other day and discovered that. It also still rings the phone even though I have the ringer settings turned off. Piece of crap.

makes you wonder how they think they can get away with selling the phone for $40 when it is not on sale....

Well...by the time I get home the battery should be fully charged, so I'll see how well it works.

got mine and I'm actually trying it out now......$hit actually works fine.........all this complianin' but for cheaper than you can get a noncordless i would say this deal is great!

Hi,

I just tried mine out as well.

It seems to work pretty well.

The volume is amazing - loudest cordless phone I have ever used.

The quality of the sound seems pretty good. It sometimes gives me a little bit of feedback "tin can" sound similar to the feedback I get from a cell phone. But that might be that I need to just let it find a more clear channel - supposedly it has 50 channels to choose from.
In the one phone call I had with it, it seemed to work more or less like any other cordless I have had.
Note that I do not have the version with the answering machine...

I will give an update if anything changes in my assessment of the phone - but so far it seems pretty decent.

BTW, anyone know why a microwave oven might interfer with a 2.4 ghz cordless phone signal?? The manual says it can....
Do I need to worry about microwaving my brain with these 2.4 ghz phones?

my only complaint was with the answering machine portion. The answering machine speaker is not that great and hard to understand the messages. The phone part itself seems to work fine. Those of you without the answering machine probably won't have any complaints for the most part.

Hi,

Just to update you guys, so far the Curtis 2.4 gighz cordless phone is working great.

The sound is very clear, and the volume is nice and loud, just like a regular corded phone.

So far I would say the performance is as good, if not better than the $50 AT&T and the $70 panasonic cordless phones I had in the past. It does get some interference from my microwave...but it is rare that I am using both at the same time...and perhaps moving the phone base might stop this (right now I have the base right next to the microwave).

I can only hope that it is good enough quality to last more than a few weeks/months.

Again, I don't have the answering machine, so I cannot say anything about that.
