DVD player that plays NTSC and PAL
I'm looking to buy a DVD player that can play both NTSC and PAL dvds as well as offering region-free encoding (or able to be 'hacked'). I currently have an Oritron DVD100 DVD player that i have hacked to be region free, but it doesn't play PAL dvd's that I just received from the United Kingdom.
1) does anyone know if there is a firmware or hardware addition that I could get to allow my PAL dvd to appear properly on my NTSC TV?
2) If not, what is a cheap ($80 or less) DVD player that I could go buy that supports both NTSC and PAL, is region-free, and can play DVD+/-R/W

i got mine from radioshack and it plays all format. and its cheap !! only 49.99. you can go ask the salesperson there.

So it will play a PAL dvd on an NTSC tv without distortion? What is the brand/model of the DVD player you purchased at Radio Shack?

Hmm...I dunno if this is GAM approved but there are a few websites that tell you how to free your DVD player.
Try this one http://www.nerd-out.com/darrenk/
Remember it's at your own risk. They list about 50 models that are either hackable through a firmware update or just through the remote control. I have don't it cuz I'm a scaredy cat

Thanks for all the input. I was just reading some reviews and what not online and I found that my local Fry's carries a Yamakawa 218S DVD player that advertises PAL/NTSC and dvd+/-r/w compatability. The only thing i'm really looking for is a PAL/NTSC capability.

Man, Apex rox. There's no dvd player like apex in the world, its the best. plays any shiny plastic round thing be it a pal svcd or a region 5 anamorphic widescreen dvd. Its the best, i have 3.
Some of the models i would recommend:
1. apex ad-1500--> its firmware upgradable so all u need is a upgrade cd.
2. apex ad-3201--> this looks better than the 1500 but everythings pretty much the same except u can change the region and pal/ntsc settings with ur remote.
