kHypermedia 48X 24X 48X Burner Free After MIRs Ends tue at 11:59 PM

I don't know if anyone else has posted this offer or not but Officemax has a kHypermedia 48X24X48 Cd-ReWriter for $70.00 with a $45.00 and $25.00 MIR. THe burner must be purchased by 5/6/03. Free s/h with purchases over $50.00 or buy other free after rebate items to add up to $150.00 and get $30.00 off $150.00 using coupon on apex coupon page. I fould that doing a search for 20326461 returns no results. Click on technology, then cd-rw drives and you'll see the drive I refer to in the list of burners. I did a quick search and didn't find this offer on apex but if it's a repeat - sorry. Think of it as a reminder to order yours before midnight!!!
A good deal involves a sale price, a rebate, or a coupon. A great deal has two or more of these!!!

    Hi,

Yeah, they don't seem to take into account shipping details when they make these rebates.

I got the burner 2 days ago, so I can get the rebate without a problem.
Unfortunately the lexar jump drive seems to be on back-order and I don't know if I will get that on time to get the rebate.

Perhaps you should call khypermedia and ask them what to do. You can always refuse to accept the package - I think you have to write "refused" and then they have to take it back at their expense and give you your money back (as long as you don't open the package).

I am going to give officemax a call about the jump drive and see what they have to say. I might not get the jump drive in time to qualify for the officemax rebate, but my understanding is that officemax is often pretty flexible with things like dates (they offered another burner for $10 using an expired rebate, but claim to still be accepting the expired rebate).

    Hope this helps.

    Good Luck,

Officemax should provide you with a free prepaid UPS shipping label for returns. It is in the box the item ships in.

in my dealings w/them if an item is on back order and has a rebate, theyll just sell it to you for the after rebate price if you get a rain check. i havent done this in a year or more, but have been able to do it a few times w/o even asking.

    Hi,

Do you mean you go to the B&M store for this, or you just call them up?

That is likely a B&M thing. My experience with OfficeMax CS on the phone is that they really could not care less about you getting your rebate.

Huh! My B&M couldn't care less - it's not in stock - sorry you should have been here the first 3 minutes after we opened on Sunday (start of sale). Too bad. They have a dozen of free after rebate items IF they're lucky! I wait a day or two and get most of the stuff online. Rain checks - they don't know what they are. They have good sales after MIR but their customer service is the pits!

Yep, that is how it goes at most places. I work at Staples, so I have to be the guy to explain this to people.

yeah, i think on products like that they dont honor rainchecks. if its a regular thing then rainchecks are ok

    Hi,

As far as I know, if when you bought the item, they were still offering the rebate, and then they do not arrange things for you to be able to use the rebate, then that is false advertising. Either they have to somehow make the rebate available to you, or let you return the item at their expense.

We will see what happens....looks like I won't get the lexar jump drive in time (it is still on back order a week later).
I plan to give the rebate center a call on monday...I will let you guys know what happens.

Anyone have any details on this drive? Does KHypermedia actually manufacture the drive or is it made by another company? I'm just wondering cause I got this drive and would like to know where to get firmware updates and what have you in the future. khypermedia.com doesn't seem to have much.

This drive is actually manufactured by kyhpermedia. If there will be firmware updates, they will post them on kyphermedia.com

    Hi,

For some reason I am not able to burn with this drive.

None of my burning software recognizes it as a cd-rw. Not even nero.

They all recognize the drive, but won't treat it like a burner.

Now, I have 2 burners connected to the computer...does anyone know if it is not possible to use 2 burners as burners?
Or perhaps I just connected the burner incorrectly.
Do I need to connect a burner differently than I connect a regular read-only CD player?

    Thanks,
    Juggernaut

I picked one up for a spare (or to have around in case I build another system). On the one I got, the front of the drawer says "seamless link" on it, which I believe is the Benq lingo for safe burn.

I've never tried 2 burners, but it should work just fine. I know from experience though that some burners are more picky about being slave or master. You don't mention is if the drive is slave to another burner. In most software you can select which drive you want to burn with and which you want to read with. In Nero it's on the "Choose Recorder" menu I believe. It's possible your software is just finding the master burner and automatically using that as the burner and not allowing the slave drive to burn. Try to find out if you can manually select it as a burner. If you do that and it doesn't work, try swapping the slave and master. If the drive that worked as master doesn't work as slave and vice versa, I'd say they don't like being on the same controller. If the same drive still doesn't work I'd say you have a problem with the drive or your computer.

    Hi,

Unless I am mistaken, both drives are set as "slave".

Is that a problem? Even when I only had 1 burner, that burner was set as "slave"

Nero does not list the new drive as an option in the "select drive", but if I do the "check media" option, it can find the disk that is in the new drive - It just does not see it as a burner.

    What do you think?

    Thanks,

Is it possible since you have more than one kind of software installed to burn that there is a conflict with the software? I know you can't mix DirectCD and Nero on the same computer, one should be removed. I have this burner, it came with Nero and so far it works great.

Both drives should be hooked up to the same IDE cable. One should be set to master and one should be set to slave OR both drives should be set to "CS" (Cable Select meaning the orientation of the drives on the cable will determine which is the master and which is the slave). You don't want one of them on the same cable as your hard drive. It will slow down your hard drive. Check the www.nero.com to make sure your version of Nero supports both burners (http://www.nero.com/en/index.html#recorder). If necessary download the newest update. Nero will recognize a burner as a cd rom reader if the version does not support it as a burner. I have had no problems running more than one. You question made me realize that i needed to update mine to recognize my NEC-1100A DVD+R/RW.

For everything you ever wanted to know about the Khypermedia drives (and which ones can be flashed to 52x24x52), check out this thread at cdrinfo. BTW, the one I got is the "flashable" model.

As pongagt said, both definitely shouldn't be set to slave. You should have your hard drive(s) on your primary controller cable, and your CD writers on your secondary controller. One burner should be set to master and one set to slave. The master should be on the end of the cable. Or just set both drives to CS (cable select).
