edit: actually, lemme try to make this into a worthwhile thread. What's the most you've ever won in the State Lottery? (scratchers, lotto, powerball, etc.)

I won $1500 once on a 5 outta 6 state lotto quick pick. One more number and I'd be on a beach somewhere.
I seriously spend like $5/year on lottery tickets. The most I ever spent was $10 when gigger set up that lotto pool last year.

I won big!
I got........another lottery ticket....![]()

I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

I'm happy to say that I have never and will never play the lottery because, as the saying goes, "the lottery is a tax on people that are bad at math."![]()

say "hi" to lumbergh for me
That's not true. If you only bet when the jackpot was bigger than the odds you'd end up on top in the long run.
As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals.
If I am going to gamble with my money, I'll at least go to Vegas or a casino to play some blackjack. At least there I'd have some control over the game and get some free drinks out of it too!Originally posted by mojo

I may not have a good chance of winning millions of dollars playing blackjack, but my luck of at least getting my money is as close to 50% as you can get.

i won $100 in GA years ago.
not too long ago i hit the VA lottery numbers. all of them. exactly the way they were called, same order and everything. i was all freaking out and yelling to my wife. w00t! we're rich.
virgina does 2 drawings. 1 in the morning and another in the evening. i hit the morning numbers.
the problem was that i had a ticket for the evening drawing
yeah, pretty much we missed the boat on that one. but it's still here. get you some.
Some 90-year-old guy just won a $16 million jackpot. Guess what payment option he chose?![]()
Yeah, he took the lump-sum payment of $10,089,377.57 instead of the annual payments of $533,333 over 30 years. You think that was the right thing for him to do??![]()

I play the CA lottery sometimes. The most I have ever won on a single ticket was $1,300 when I got 4+bonus. I was 1 number away from 20M. I have had several scratchers pay off big - I have had three different $400+ tickets. All in all, I think I'm breaking even right now.
I think over again
My small adventures, my fears.
The small ones that seemed so big,
For all the vital things I had to get and to reach.
And yet there is only one great thing, the only thing:
To live to see the great day that dawns,
And the light that fills the world.

But then again, I play it every once in a while, so what does that say about me?

I had a small good luck streak going a little while back . . . so I figured I'd buy a couple lotto tix and bought $9 worth . . . a mix of scratch off and draws. I ended up winning $21 (a $20 scratch off and a $1 scratch off). Heck, I'll take it, that's a 133% profit.
